सऊदी अरब ने कनाडा के साथ व्यापार संबंधों को मुक्त किया

• सऊदी अरब द्वारा हाल ही में कनाडा के साथ व्यापारिक और निवेश संबंधों पर रोक लगाए जाने की घोषणा की गई है।
• सऊदी अरब ने यह कदम कनाडा के विदेश मंत्री की उस अपील के बाद उठाया है, जिसमें उन्होंने सऊदी अरब में गिरफ्तार किये गये नागरिक अधिकार कार्यकर्ता की रिहाई की मांग की थी।

          जानें क्या है विवाद

• कनाडा ने सऊदी अरब की जेल में बंद मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ता रैफ बदावी एवं उनकी बहन समर बदावी को बंधक बनाकर रखने का विरोध किया है।
• रैफ बदावी को वर्ष 2012 में इस्लाम का अपमान करने के जुर्म में दस साल की जेल और 1,000 कोड़े मारने की सजा सुनाई गई है।
• बदावी को जून, 2012 में साइबर क्राइम और अपने पिता की अवहेलना के आरोपों में गिरफ्तार कर लिया गया था।

अगले साल से स्‍कूलों में खेल के पीरियड अनिवार्य

• केंद्र ने 2011 के खेल संहिता को लागू करने के लिए सभी राज्यों से आग्रह किया है।
• केंद्रीय खेल और युवा मामलों के मंत्री कर्नल राज्‍य वर्द्धनराठौड़ ने कहा है कि अगले साल से स्‍कूलों में खेल के पीरियड को अनिवार्य रूप से शामिल किया जाएगा।
• शिक्षा मंत्रालय यह सुनिश्चित कर रहा है कि 2019 तक स्कूलों में पाठ्यक्रम 50 प्रतिशत कम कर दिया जाए और तब खेलों का पीरियड नियमित आधार पर होगा।
• कर्नल ने कहा कि ‘इस साल हमारे पास खेलों की विशेषज्ञता वाले 20 स्कूल होंगे और सरकार उनमें से प्रत्येक पर सात से दस करोड़ रुपये खर्च करेगी। हमारी योजना प्रत्येक स्कूल में दो या तीन मुख्य खेल रखने की है। ऐसे में उनका पूरा ध्यान उन्हीं खेलों पर केंद्रित होगा।’

स्टार्टअप इंडिया के अकादमिक गठबंधन कार्यक्रम

• देश में उद्यमिता की भावना को प्रोत्‍साहित करने संबंधी भारत सरकार के मिशन को पूरा करने के लिए स्‍टार्टअप इंडिया ने 'स्‍टार्टअप अकादमिक गठबंधन' कार्यक्रम शुरू किया है, जो अकादमिक विद्वानों और समान कार्य क्षेत्रों (डोमेन) में कार्यरत स्‍टार्टअप्‍स के बीच एक अनूठा मार्गदर्शन अवसर है।
• उद्देश्‍य : स्‍टार्टअप अकादमिक गठबंधन' कार्यक्रम का उद्देश्‍य वैज्ञानिक अनुसंधान और उसके औद्योगिक अनुप्रयोगों के बीच के अंतर को कम करना है, ताकि इन प्रौद्योगिकियों की प्रभावकारिता को बढ़ाया जा सके और इसके साथ ही इनके प्रभावों या असर का दायरा बढ़ाया जा सके।
• शिक्षाविदों और उद्योग जगत के बीच एक सेतु सृजित करते हुए इस गठबंधन का उद्देश्‍य स्‍टार्टअप परितंत्र के हितधारकों के बीच टिकाऊ संपर्क सृजित करना और उस तृतीय स्‍तंभ को क्रियान्वित करना है जिस पर स्‍टार्टअप इंडिया की कार्य योजना आधारित है।

स्वच्छ भारत मिशन (यू) के तहत जारी फिल्म "हलका" का आधिकारिक ट्रेलर लांच हुआ

• केंद्रीय आवास और शहरी मामलों के राज्य मंत्री (स्वतंत्र प्रभार) हरदीप एस पुरी ने 6 अगस्त को नई दिल्ली नगर पालिका परिषद के सहयोग से स्वच्छ भारत मिशन (शहरी) के तत्वाधान में बनी बालीवुड फिल्म ‘हल्का’ का आधिकारिक ट्रेलर, संगीत और पोस्टर लांच किया।
• लक्ष्य : इस मौके पर पुरी ने कहा कि स्वच्छ भारत मिशन सरकार का एक महत्वपूर्ण कार्यक्रम है। इसका लक्ष्य 2 अक्टूबर, 2019 तक सभी नगरों व शहरों को खुले में शौच से मुक्त बनाना है।
• इस फिल्म के निर्देशक पद्मश्री नील माधव पांडा हैं जिन्होंने कई प्रख्यात फिल्में बनाई हैं जैसे – आई. एम. कलाम, जलपरी, कौन कितने पानी में और कड़वी हवा।
• यह फिल्म 5 सितम्बर, 2018 को भारत में रिलीज होगी। अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर फिल्म को कई पुरस्कार प्राप्त हुए हैं जैसे- माँट्रिअल बाल फिल्म महोत्सव और पोलैंड में बाल और युवा फिल्म महोत्सव के पुरस्कार।

बोलीदाता सूचना प्रबंधन प्रणाली और भूमि राशि – पीएफएमएस संपर्क पोर्टल का शुभारंभ किया

• केन्‍द्रीय सड़क परिवहन, राजमार्ग, जहाजरानी, जल संसाधन, नदी विकास और गंगा संरक्षण मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने 6 अगस्त 2018 को सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय की ओर से ''बोलीदाता सूचना प्रबंधन प्रणाली (बीआईएमएस) और भूमि राशि तथा पीएफएमएस संपर्क'' पोर्टल का शुभारंभ किया।
• उद्देश्‍य : इस पोर्टल का उद्देश्‍य निर्माण पूर्व गतिविधियों से संबंधित बोली प्रक्रिया और भूमि अधिग्रहण के कार्यों में तेजी लाना है।
• बीआईएमएस का उद्देश्‍य राष्‍ट्रीय राजमार्ग परियोजनाओं से जुड़ी अनुबंध प्रक्रियाओं को बोलीदाताओं के लिए ज्‍यादा पारदर्शी और व्‍यवस्थित बनाना है।
• भूमि राशि पोर्टल : इसे सड़क परिवहन और राजमार्ग मंत्रालय तथा राष्‍ट्रीय सूचना केंद्र द्वारा मिलकर तैयार किया गया है।
• इस पोर्टल में देश के सभी 6.4 लाख गांवों की भूमि का राजस्‍व आंकड़ा दिया गया है। इससे भूमि परियोजनाओं के लिए भूमि अधिग्रहण की प्रक्रिया आसान हो सकेगी।
• भूमि राशि पोर्टल के साथ लोक वित्‍त प्रबंधन प्रणाली – (पीएफएमएस) को जोड़े जाने से भूमि अधिग्रहण के दौरान अदा की जाने वाली मुआवजा राशि का भुगतान लाभार्थियों को आसानी से सीधे किया जा सकेगा।

लोकसभा में एससी/एसटी कानून संशोधन विधेयक पारित

• लोकसभा में 6 अगस्त 2018 को अनुसूचित जाति व अनुसूचित जनजाति (अत्याचार निवारण) संशोधन विधेयक, 2018 पारित हो गया।
• इस संशोधन के जरिए सुप्रीम कोर्ट का वह आदेश निष्प्रभावी हो जाएगा, जिसके तहत एससी/एसटी अत्याचार निवारण के मामले में आरोपी की तत्काल गिरफ्तारी पर रोक लगा दी गई थी।
• यह संशोधन विधेयक लोकसभा में केंद्रीय न्याय एवं आधिकारिता मंत्री थावर चंद गहलोत ने पिछले सप्ताह पेश किया था। सरकार ने सुप्रीम कोर्ट में पुनरीक्षण याचिका दाखिल कर शीर्ष अदालत के आदेश को निरस्त कर एससी/एसटी (अत्याचार निवारण) अधिनियम 1989 के मूल प्रावधानों को बरकरार रखने की गुहार लगाई थी।

संसद ने एनसीबीसी को संवैधानिक दर्जा देने के लिए विधेयक पारित किया

• राज्यसभा ने 6 अगस्त 2018 को राष्ट्रीय पिछड़ा वर्ग आयोग से जुड़े संविधान (123वां संशोधन) विधेयक को सर्वसम्मति से पारित कर दिया।
• राष्ट्रीय पिछड़ा वर्ग आयोग (एनसीबीसी) को संवैधानिक दर्जा देने के लिए लोकसभा विधेयक को पहले ही पारित कर चुकी है।
• यह विधेयक NCBC को राष्ट्रीय अनुसूचित जाति आयोग व राष्ट्रीय अनुसूचित जनजाति आयोग के बराबर संवैधानिक दर्जा प्रदान करता है।
• आपको बता दें, कि यह विधेयक NCBC को सामाजिक और शैक्षणिक रूप से पिछड़े वर्गों के संबंध में शिकायतों और कल्याण कार्यक्रमों की जांच करने का भी अधिकार देता है।

हिरोशिमा परमाणु हमले की 73वीं बरसी

• जापान के हिरोशिमा में 6 अगस्त 1945 के दिन परमाणु हमला किया गया था, जिसमें लगभग 1 लाख 40 हजार लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। वहीं नागासाकी में 74,000 लोगों को जान गंवानी पड़ी थी।
• इस हमले की 6 अगस्त 2018 को 73वीं बरसी मनाई गयी।
• 6 अगस्त 1945 को अमेरिका ने हिरोशिमा के ऊपर विनाशक B-29 परमाणु बम से सैन्य ठिकाने पर हमले किए थे, जिसमें करीब-करीब 140,000 लोग मारे गए थे।
• बता दें कि जापान में द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के दौरान दो बार अमेरिका की तरफ से परमाणु हमले किए गए थे। पहली हिरोशिमा में और उसके तीन ही दिन बाद नागासाकी में।

संसदीय समिति ने सरकार को बढ़ती खाद्य सब्सिडी बिल पर अंकुश लगाने को कहा

• संसद के समक्ष पेश 22वीं रिपोर्ट में समिति ने कहा कि खाद्य सब्सिडी पर अंकुश लगाने के लिये जो कदम अभी उठाये जा रहे हैं, वह पर्याप्त नहीं है।
• खाद्य कानून के प्रावधान के तहत सरकार राशन की दुकानों के जरिये हर महीने प्रति व्यक्ति 5 किलो अनाज अत्यधिक सब्सिडी पर उपलब्ध कराती है। ये अनाज एक रुपये से तीन रुपये प्रति किलो (केंद्रीय निर्गम मूल्य) की दर से दिये जाते हैं।
• राशन की दुकानों से सस्ती दर अनाज की बिक्री के लिये भारतीय खाद्य निगम आर्थिक लागत पर खरीद करती है। आर्थिक लागत में न्यूनतम समर्थन मूल्य और अन्य शुल्क शामिल हैं।

राष्ट्रपति ने तिरूवनंतपुरम में ‘लोकतंत्र का त्योहार’ कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन किया

• राष्ट्रपति रामनाथ कोविंद ने 6 अगस्त, 2018 को तिरूवनंतपुरम में केरल विधानसभा की हीरक जयंती समारोह के समापन आयोजन के रूप में ‘लोकतंत्र का त्योहार’ कार्यक्रम का उद्घाटन किया।
• राष्ट्रपति कोविंद 5 अगस्त 2018 को केरल की तीन दिवसीय यात्रा पर राज्य की राजधानी में पहुंचे।
• पिछले 60 वर्षों के दौरान केरल विधानसभा के योगदान की प्रशंसा करते हुए राष्ट्रपति महोदय ने कहा कि राज्य के कुछ क्षेत्रों में राजनीतिक हिंसा एक विरोधाभास के रूप में विद्यमान है। सभी राजनीतिक समूहों और नागरिकों को ऐसी प्रवृत्तियों की रोकथाम के लिए प्रयास करना चाहिए।
• इसके अतिरिक्त राष्ट्रपति ने विधानसभा में बहस और परस्पर मेल-मिलाप की संस्कृति को केरल के जीवन का डीएनए बताया और इसे संरक्षित रखे जाने के लिए जोर दिया।

Startup India’s Academia Alliance Programme

• To promote entrepreneurship and startup drive, Startup India has launched the Startup Academia Alliance programme.
• It is a unique mentorship opportunity between academic scholars and startups working in the same area.
• The first phase of Startup Academia Alliance was started through partnering with Regional Centre for Biotechnology, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Council on Energy, Environment and Water, and TERI School of Advanced Studies. 
• The applications for Startup Academia Alliance were hosted on the Startup India Hub, a one-stop destination for startups to apply for opportunities such as incubator and accelerator programmes.
• A total of 133 applications from relevant startups were received through the Startup India Hub, out of which, 43 were shortlisted by institutes on the basis of operational areas and technological relevance.
• Startup India - It is an initiative of the Government of India. The campaign was first announced by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his 15 August 2015 address from the Red Fort, in New Delhi.

• Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Bollywood movie “Halkaa’s trailer was released in partnership with New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
• Swachh Bharat Mission has a target to achieve open defecation free status for all cities and towns by 2nd October 2019.
• It is expected that the film can contribute to the aim of achieving an Open Defecation Free India and accelerate the pace of achieving the Swachh Bharat Mission’s targets, through its powerful messaging.
• Halkaa (Relief) is the story of an 8-year-old boy Pichku who aspires for a better quality of life.

Bidder Information Management System launched

• The central government on 06 Aug launched an online management system to expedite land acquisition and the bidding process for road construction.
• The Bidder Information Management System (BIMS) was launched by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.
• Annual Awards for Excellence in National Highways Projects will be given also from this year to contractors doing quality work.
• A new portal, Bhoomi Rashi was also launched which comprises the entire revenue data of the country, right down to 6.4 lakh villages.

• The portal will work as a data base of information about bidders, covering basic details, civil works experience, cash accruals and network, annual turnover etc.

• Bhoomi Rashi portal has been instrumental in reducing the time taken for approval and publication of notifications pertaining to land acquisition.
• The portal, created for expediting the process of publication of notifications for LA, is now being fully utilized for issuing the notifications, and more than 900 notifications have been issued using the portal so far.
• Integration of Public Financial Management System (PFMS) with Bhoomi Rashi is one of the key functionalities to facilitate payment related to compensation for land acquisition to all the beneficiaries directly through the Bhoomi Rashi system.
• With integration of Bhoomi Rashi with PFMS, payment of Compensation by the Ministry to the beneficiaries will be just-in-time, and without any parking of funds.

SC/ST Amendment Bill passed in Lok Sabha

• The Lok Sabha on 06 July unanimously passed a Bill to reverse the effects of a Supreme Court order concerning certain safeguards against arrests under the SC/ST law.
• The renewed Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2018, rules out any provision for anticipatory bail for a person accused of atrocities against people from SC or ST communities.
• Moreover, no preliminary enquiry will be required to register a criminal case, and an arrest under this proposed law would not be subject to any approval. 
• An FIR will be filed based on complaints of crimes against people from Dalit and tribal communities without any questions, it entails. 

What was the controversy?

• Supreme Court judgment on 20 March had diluted the SC/ST Act to state that immediate arrest of an accused under this law would no longer be mandatory. The arrest was to follow a preliminary enquiry by the probing agency or the police.
• Soon after the judgment was pronounced, various Dalit groups launched a nationwide agitation.

Parliament passes Bill to give constitutional status to NCBC

• Parliament on 06 Aug passed a bill to provide constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes.
• The 123^rd Constitutional Amendment Bill provides constitutional status to NCBC.
• It will give the institution all powers to safeguard the rights of the socially and educationally backward classes and fulfils a long pending commitment of the central govt to the OBCs.

123^rd Constitutional Amendment Bill

• It seeks to establish the NCBC under the constitution with authority to examine complaints and welfare measures regarding OBCs.
• NCBC will will have a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and 3 other members of which at least one will be a woman.
• The provision for mandatory woman member will be made during framing of rules.
• NCBC will work as an autonomous institution with powers of a civil court.
• It will investigate & monitor how safeguards provided to OBCs under Constitution and other laws are being implemented.
• It will inquire into specific complaints regarding violation of rights of OBCs.
• It will also advise and make recommendations on socio-economic development of such classes.
• Central and state govts will have to consult NCBC on all major policy matters affecting OBCs.

Saudi Arabia freezes trade ties with Canada

• Saudi Arabia has said it is freezing all new trade with Canada and expelling its ambassador over its "interference" in the kingdom's domestic affairs.

Causes of dispute:

• A Saudi foreign ministry statement said it considered Canada's last week call for the release of detained civil society and women's rights activists a violation of Saudi sovereignty.
• According to UN High Commissioner for Human Rights; at least 15 human rights defenders and women's rights activists critical of the Saudi government had been arrested or detained arbitrarily since 15 May.
• Ms Badawi was also detained last week. Ms Badawi was given the US International Women of Courage Award in 2012 and is known for challenging Saudi Arabia's male guardianship system.
• The Canadian government criticized the Saudi Monarchy for suppressing the human right and civil right groups. It annoyed the Saudi government. The Canadian ambassador to Saudi Arabia was expelled over the issue and al trade ties were withhold by the government.
• Saudi Arabian Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has introduced several reforms such as lifting the ban on women being allowed to drive. But it seems he wouldn’t tolerate dissent.

Japan marks 73rd anniversary of atomic bombing of Hiroshima

• Hiroshima marked the anniversary of the Aug. 6, 1945, atomic bombing of the city with a sombre ceremony on 6 Aug to remember those killed and injured and a call to eliminate nuclear weapons amid hopes of denuclearizing North Korea.

US Attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

• The U.S. attack on Hiroshima killed 140,000 people, and the bombing of Nagasaki killed more than 70,000 three days later, leading to Japan’s surrender and ending the Second World War.

Centre urges all States to enforce 2011 Sports Code

• Sports Ministry has urged all states to enforce the 2011 Sports Code so that it is followed by the state federations who must ensure 'free and transparent' election process.

What is Sports Code 2011?

• The National Sports Development Code was released in 2011.
• It contains all guidelines issued by the Government of India from time to time to promote good governance in the management of sports development, including sporting excellence, in the country.
• National Sports Federations (NSFs) availing of government grants was declared as public authorities and brought under purview of the Right to Information Act, 2005.

Par panel asks govt to contain rising food subsidy bill

• A Parliamentary panel asked the government to make vigorous efforts to explore new avenues to contain the rising food subsidy bill which is pegged at Rs 1,38,123 crore for the current fiscal.

Food Subsidy Bill

• As per the provisions of the food law, the government sells 5 kg of highly subsidised foodgrains per person, per month at a central issue price (CIP) of Rs 1-3 per kg via the public distribution system (PDS), known as ration shops.
• The required foodgrains for the subsidised sale via PDS are purchased by state-run Food Corporation of India (FCI) at an economic cost, which includes MSP and other charges.

Recommendations

• A careful relook at the widening gap between CIP and economic cost of wheat and rice vis-a-vis the increase in MSP of wheat and rice in order to contain, if not reduce the ever increasing food subsidy bill.
• The panel noted that the minimum support price (MSP) of wheat and rice has been increased since 2004-05 but the CIP has not been revised since 2002.
• The MSP of wheat has increased from Rs 630 per quintal in 2004-05 to Rs 1,735 per quintal in 2018-19.
• Similarly, the MSP of paddy has increased from Rs 560 per quintal to Rs 1,550 per quintal in 2017-18.
• The panel advised the government to rationalize the prices with MSP.

• रस्ते परिवहन आणि महामार्ग मंत्रालयातर्फे दोन माहिती तंत्रज्ञानावर आधारित उपक्रमांचे अनावरण करण्यात आले आहे; ते आहेत –
  
  • बीडर इन्फॉर्मेशन मॅनेजमेंट सिस्टम (BIMS)
  • भूमी राशी आणि PFMS लिंकेज

• BIMS उपक्रम मंत्रालयातर्फे आयोजित केल्या जाणार्‍या लिलाव प्रक्रियेत बोली लावणार्‍याच्या पूर्व-पात्रतेची प्रक्रिया चालविण्यासाठी आहे. भूमी राशी हे डिजिटल पोर्टलमध्ये देशाच्या संपूर्ण महसूल आकडेवारीचा समावेश आहे.
• सार्वजनिक वित्तीय व्यवस्थापन प्रणाली (PFMS) याला भूमी राशीसोबत एकात्मिक केल्यामुळे या यंत्रणेमार्फत सर्व लाभार्थ्यांना थेट भू-अधिग्रहण होत असलेल्या भरपाईशी संबंधित देयकाची सुविधा मिळते.

लोकसभेत अनुसूचित जाती/जमाती दुरुस्ती विधेयक मंजूर

• अनुसूचीत जाती / अनुसूचीत जमाती कायद्यांतर्गत होणार्‍या अटकेपासून बचाव प्रदान करण्याबाबत लोकसभेत ‘अनुसूचित जाती आणि अनुसूचित जमाती (अत्याचार प्रतिबंधक) दुरुस्ती विधेयक-2018’ मंजूर करण्यात आला आहे.
• या विधेयकात अनुसूचित जाती किंवा अनुसूचित जमातीतील लोकांवरील अत्याचारात आरोपी ठरलेल्या व्यक्तीसाठी आगाऊ जामीन देण्याबाबतची कोणतीही तरतूद फेटाळते. शिवाय, फौजदारी खटला नोंदविण्यासाठी प्राथमिक चौकशीची आवश्यकता नाही आणि दलित व आदिवासी समाजातील लोकांवर झालेल्या अत्याचाराविरोधात गुन्ह्याच्या आधारावर FIR दाखल केले जाईल आणि अटक होणार.

संसदेत राष्ट्रीय मागासवर्गीय आयोगाला संवैधानिक दर्जा देणारे विधेयक मंजूर

• संसदेच्या दोन्ही सभागृहात ‘संविधान (123वी दुरूस्ती) विधेयक-2018’ मंजूर करण्यात आले आहे. हे विधेयक राष्ट्रीय मागासवर्गीय आयोग (NCBC) याला संवैधानिक दर्जा देते.
• या विधेयकामार्फत आता आयोगाला मागासवर्गीयांचे सामाजिक आणि शैक्षणिक अधिकारांचे रक्षण करण्याचे सर्व अधिकार दिले जातील.
• राष्ट्रीय मागासवर्गीय आयोग (NCBC) हे सामाजिक न्याय व सबलीकरण मंत्रालय अंतर्गत येते. NCBC ची स्थापना NCBC कायदा, 1993 अन्वये करण्यात आली आहे. NCBC मध्ये एक अध्यक्ष, एक उपाध्यक्ष आणि तीन अन्य सदस्य (किमान एक महिला) असणार.

सर्व राज्यांनी 2011 सालच्या क्रिडा संहिता अंमलात आणण्याची केंद्र शासनाची मागणी

• केंद्र शासनाने सर्व राज्यांना 2011 राष्ट्रीय क्रिडा विकास संहिता (National Sports Development Code) याची अंमलबजावणी करण्याची मागणी केली आहे, जेणेकरून राज्य महासंघाकडून त्याचे पालन केले जाऊ शकणार.
• सन 2011 मध्ये भारतात राष्ट्रीय क्रिडा विकास संहिता (National Sports Development Code) सादर करण्यात आले. यात देशभरातील क्रीडा विकासासहित विकास, सुशासन संदर्भात प्रबोधन करण्यासाठी वेळोवेळी भारत सरकारकडून दिली गेलेली सर्व मार्गदर्शक तत्त्वे समाविष्ट आहेत. तसेच क्रिडाक्षेत्रात निवडणुका कश्या पार पाडाव्यात याबद्दल विशेष मार्गदर्शक तत्वे पुरवते.

संसदीय समितीने केंद्राला अन्न अनुदान वाढविणारे विधेयक तयार करण्यास सांगितले

• संसदीय समितीने केंद्र शासनाला अन्न अनुदान वाढविणारे विधेयक तयार करण्यास सांगितले आहे आणि चालू आर्थिक वर्षासाठी 1,38,123 कोटी रुपये मिळतील असे स्पष्ट केले.
• अन्न कायद्याच्या तरतुदीनुसार सरकार रेशन दुकान म्हणजेच सार्वजनिक वितरण व्यवस्थेच्या (PDS) माध्यमातून प्रत्येक व्यक्तीला महिन्याकाठी 1-3 रुपये किलोग्राम दराने 5 किलो अनुदानित अन्नधान्य विकते.
• 2004-05 सालापासून गहू आणि तांदळाच्या किमान आधारभूत किंमतीत (MSP) वाढ झाली परंतु 2002 सालापासून केंद्राकडून ठरविण्यात आलेल्या किंमतीत (CIP) सुधारीत झालेली नाही. त्यामुळे खर्चात तफावत दिसून येत आहे. वित्त वर्ष 2018-19 मध्ये अन्न विधेयक अंदाजे 1,38,123 कोटी रुपयांचे आहे, जेव्हा की वर्ष 2017-18 मध्ये प्रत्यक्ष खर्च 1,04,901 कोटी रुपये इतका झाला.

सौदी अरबने कॅनडासोबत असलेले आपले व्यापारी संबंध तोडले

• सौदी अरबकडून कॅनडासोबत व्यापार आणि गुंतवणूक संदर्भात असलेल्या सर्व नवीन संबंधांना गोठवण्यात आले आहे आणि रियाधमधील कॅनेडाच्या राजदूताला देश सोडण्यास 24 तासांची मुदत दिली.
• सरकार-विरोधी कार्यकर्ता समर बदावी यांच्या सुटकेसाठी कॅनडाने केलेल्या मागणीच्या प्रतिसादात सौदी अरबने हा निर्णय घेतला आहे. सौदी अरबने देशांतर्गत कामकाजात कॅनडाचा "निर्लज्य आणि अस्वीकार्य हस्तक्षेप" पाहत आपली प्रतिक्रिया जाहीर केली.

हिरोशिमावर अणुबॉम्ब टाकण्याच्या घटनेला 73 वर्ष पूर्ण झाली

• 6 ऑगस्ट 2018 रोजी अमेरिकेने जपानच्या हिरोशिमा शहरावर टाकलेल्या अणुबॉम्बच्या घटनेला 73 वर्ष पूर्ण झाली आहेत.
• दुसर्‍या विश्वयुद्धाच्या वेळेस 6 ऑगस्ट 1945 रोजी अमेरिकेने हिरोशिमा शहरावर टाकलेल्या अणुबॉम्बमुळे वर्षाच्या अखेरपर्यंत जवळपास 214,000 लोक मारले गेले होते. या अणुबॉम्बला ‘लिटल बॉय’ म्हणून संबोधले जाते. त्यानंतर 9 ऑगस्टला आणखी एक अणुबॉम्ब नागासाकी शहरावर टाकण्यात आला. या घटनेनंतर सहा दिवसांनी जपान शरण आले आणि विश्वयुद्धाची सांगता झाली.

तिरुवनंतपुरममध्ये 'लोकशाहीचा महोत्सव' या कार्यक्रमाचा शुभारंभ

• केरळ राज्य विधानसभेचा 60 वा महोत्सवी वर्ष साजरा करण्यासाठी तिरुवनंतपुरममध्ये 'लोकशाहीचा महोत्सव' (Festival of Democracy) या कार्यक्रमाचा शुभारंभ करण्यात आला आहे.
• या कार्यक्रमाचे उद्घाटन 6 ऑगस्ट 2018 रोजी भारताचे राष्ट्रपती राम नाथ कोविंद यांच्या हस्ते करण्यात आले आहे.
