मंत्रिमंडल ने ब्रिक्स देशों में क्षेत्रीय विमानन साझेदीरी पर समझौता ज्ञापन हस्ताक्षर को स्वीकृति दी

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में केन्द्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने ब्रिक्स देशों में क्षेत्रीय विमानन साझेदीरी पर समझौता ज्ञापन हस्ताक्षर को स्वीकृति दे दी है।
• प्रभाव : नागर विमानन के क्षेत्र में सहयोग के लिए संस्थागत ढांचे की स्थापना से ब्रिक्स देशों को लाभ होगा। सहयोग के निम्नलिखित क्षेत्र चिन्हित किये गये हैं:
• क्षेत्रीय सेवाओं में सार्वजनिक नीतियां तथा श्रेष्ठ व्यवहार
• क्षेत्रीय हवाई अड्डे
• हवाई अड्डा संरचना प्रबंधन तथा एयर नेवीगेशन सेवाएं
• नियामक एजेंसियों के बीच तकनीकी सहयोग
• नवाचार
• वैश्विक पहलुओं पर संवाद सहित पर्यावरण निरंतरता
• योग्यता और प्रशिक्षण
• पारस्परिक रूप से निर्धारित अन्य क्षेत्र

क्यों जरूरी है

• यह समझौता ज्ञापन भारत तथा ब्रिक्स सदस्य देशों के बीच नागर विमानन संबंधों में महत्वपूर्ण है और इसमें ब्रिक्स देशों के बीच व्यापार, निवेश, पर्यटन तथा सांस्कृतिक आदान-प्रदान बढाने की क्षमता है। ब्रिक्स देशों में ब्राजील, रूस, भारत, चीन तथा दक्षिण अफ्रीका शामिल हैं।

 महात्मा गांधी की 150वीं जयंती की पूर्व संध्या पर कैदियों को विशेष छूट

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अध्‍यक्षता में केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडल ने 18 जुलाई को महात्‍मा गांधी की 150वीं जयंती के अवसर पर कारागारों से कैदियों को विशेष माफी देने के प्रस्‍ताव को मंजूरी दी है।
• ऐसे कैदियों को विशेष माफी नहीं दी जाएगी जो मृत्‍युदंड की सजा काट रहे हैं अथवा जिनकी मृत्‍युदंड की सजा को आजीवन कारावास में बदल दिया गया है। इसके अलावा दहेज मृत्‍यु, बलात्‍कार, मानव तस्‍करी और पोटा, यूएपीए, टाडा, एफआईसीएन, पोस्‍को एक्‍ट, धन शोधन, फेमा, एनडीपीएस, भ्रष्‍टाचार रोकथाम अधिनियम आदि के दोषियों को भी इसमें शामिल नहीं किया गया है।
• इस दौरान जिन कैदियों को विशेष माफी दी जाएगी और उन्‍हें तीन चरणों में रिहा किया जाएगाः-
• पहले चरण में कैदियों को 02 अक्‍टूबर, 2018 (महात्‍मा गांधी की जयंती) को, दूसरे चरण में कैदियों को 10 अप्रैल, 2019 (चम्‍पारण सत्‍याग्रह की वर्षगांठ) को और तीसरे चरण में कैदियों को 02 अक्‍टूबर, 2019 (महात्‍मा गांधी की जयंती) को रिहा किया जाएगा।
• को राज्‍यपाल के पास विचार और संविधान की धारा 161 के तहत मंजूरी के लिए भेजेगी।

 कैबिनेट ने देवरिया में मेडिकल कॉलेज, सलेमपुर की स्थापना की मंजूरी दी

• सरकार ने देवरिया में नया मेडिकल कॉलेज खोलने के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश सरकार के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी है।
• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी की अध्यक्षता में आर्थिक मामलों पर मंत्रिमंडल की समिति ने केंद्र प्रायोजित योजना के दूसरे चरण के तहत 250 करोड़ रुपये की लागत से देवरिया में जिला अस्पताल को उन्नत बनाकर कॉलेज स्थापित करने के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दे दी।
• मौजूदा जिला या रेफरल अस्पतालों से जुड़े नए मेडिकल कॉलेज स्थापित करने के लिए योजना के दूसरे चरण के तहत प्रत्येक तीन संसदीय क्षेत्र में एक मेडिकल और प्रत्येक राज्य में एक सरकारी मेडिकल कॉलेज का मानदंड है।

• राज्य सरकार ने सूचित किया कि सलेमपुर देवरिया जिले का हिस्सा है और सलेमपुर संसदीय निर्वाचन क्षेत्र आंशिक रूप से देवरिया जिले के तहत आता है।
• देवरिया जिला अस्पताल इसलिए भी उचित है, क्योंकि इसमें पर्याप्त संख्या में बेड और अन्य सुविधाएं हैं, जिसमें एमसीआई के नियमों के अनुसार भूमि की उपलब्धता भी शामिल है।

 एशियाई जूनियर कुश्ती चैम्पियनशिप में वीरेश कुंडा को मिला कांस्य पदक

• नई दिल्‍ली में आयोजित एशियन जूनियर कुश्ती चैम्पियनशिप में 18 जुलाई को ग्रीको रोमन श्रेणी में पहलवान वीरेश कुंडा ने कांस्‍य पदक जीता।
• उत्तर प्रदेश के बीस वर्षीय इस पहलवान ने 97 किलोग्राम वर्ग में दक्षिण कोरिया के जियोंगयुल वोन को 14-5 से हराकर अपने करियर का पहला अंतर्राष्‍ट्रीय पदक जीता।
• प्रतियोगिता के पहले दिन भारत ने एक स्‍वर्ण, दो रजत और एक कांस्‍य सहित चार पदक जीते थे।
• एशियाई जूनियर कुश्ती चैम्पियनशिप के पहले दिन पहलवान साजन भानवाल ने ईरान के पहलवान शियान हुसैन को हराकर भारत को पहला स्वर्ण दिलाया था।

 दिल्ली वार्ता का 10वां संस्करण नई दिल्ली में शुरू

• दिल्ली वार्ता का 10वां संस्करण 19 जुलाई को नई दिल्ली में शुरू हुआ।
• विदेश मंत्री सुषमा स्वराज ने इस दो दिवसीय आयोजन को संबोधित किया।
• इस कार्यक्रम का विषय है ‘Strengthening India-ASEAN Maritime Co-operation’ यानी 'भारत-आसियान के बीच समुद्री सहयोग को मजबूत बनाना'
• 2009 से सालाना आयोजित होने वाले इस कार्यक्रम में भारत और आसियान देशों के राजनीतिक नेता, नीति निर्माता, वरिष्ठ अधिकारी, राजनयिक, प्रमुख उद्योगपति, विचारक और शिक्षाविद् भाग लेते हैं।
• इस साल पूर्वात्तर राज्यों के मुख्यमंत्रियों को भी सम्मेलन के लिए आमंत्रित किया गया है।
• उद्देश्य : बैठक का उद्देश्य भारत और आसियान देशों के बीच सहयोग और संपर्क को बढ़ाना है।

 उच्चतम न्यायालय : सबरीमाला मंदिर में प्रवेश महिलाओं का संवैधानिक अधिकार

• उच्चतम न्यायालय ने 18 जुलाई को कहा कि महिलाओं को केरल के सबरीमाला मंदिर में प्रवेश करने और बगैर किसी भेदभाव के पुरुषों की तरह पूजा- अर्चना करने का संवैधानिक अधिकार है।
• प्रधान न्यायाधीश दीपक मिश्रा की अध्यक्षता वाली पांच सदस्यीय संविधान पीठ ने कहा कि यदि कोई कानून नहीं भी हो, तब भी मंदिर में पूजा - अर्चना करने के मामले में महिलाओं से भेदभाव नहीं किया जा सकता।
• संविधान पीठ ने उस याचिका पर सुनवाई की है, जिसमें 10-50 वर्ष के आयु वर्ग की महिलाओं के सबरीमाला मंदिर में प्रवेश पर प्रतिबंध के देवस्वोम बोर्ड के फैसले को चुनौती दी गई थी।
• एससी ने कहा की यह संवैधानिक अधिकार है। यह अधिकार संविधान के अनुच्छेद 25 और 26 में निहित है।

 भारतीय वायु सेना ऑस्ट्रेलिया में बहुराष्ट्रीय अभ्यास में भाग लेगी

• पहली बार, भारतीय वायुसेना व्यायाम पिच ब्लैक (Exercise Pitch Black) 2018 (पीबी -18) में भाग लेगी।
• वायुसेना ने 18 जुलाई को एक आधिकारिक बयान में कहा, भारतीय वायुसेना के दल में 145 एयर-योद्धा शामिल होंगे, जिसमें गरुण कमांडो टीम, चार सुखोई -30 एमकेआई लड़ाकू विमान और सी-130 और सी-17 परिवहन विमान शामिल हैं।
• ''पिच ब्लैक'' रॉयल ऑस्ट्रेलियाई वायुसेना (आरएएएफ) द्वारा होस्ट किया जाएगा।

 इज़राइल ने यहूदी देश बनने का कानून पास किया, जिसके अनुसार येरूसलम इसकी राजधानी और हिब्रू एकमात्र आधिकारिक भाषा होगी

• इजरायली संसद ने 19 जुलाई को संवैधानिक कानून पारित कर इज़राइल को “यहूदी राज्य” घोषित कर दिया और यह निर्धारित किया कि केवल यहूदियों का ही यहाँ अधिकार होगा।
• इजरायल के प्रधानमंत्री बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू ने घोषणा की, “यह ज़ीयोनिज्म और इज़राइल राज्य के इतिहास में एक परिभाषित क्षण है, अब इजरायल एक यहूदी राष्ट्र-राज्य है।”
• विवादास्पद कानून ने हिब्रू को एकमात्र आधिकारिक भाषा घोषित कर दी।
• इसे 120 सीट वाली इज़राइली संसद केसेट में पारित किया गया है।

 पवन हंस में 49% की हिस्सेदारी बेचेगा ONGC

• सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र की ओएनजीसी के निदेशक मंडल ने हेलीकॉप्टर सेवा देने वाली कंपनी पवन हंस में अपनी 49% की पूरी हिस्सेदारी बेचने के फैसले को मंजूरी दे दी है।
• पवन हंस के पास कुल 46 हेलीकॉप्टरों का बेड़ा है। अधिकारी ने बताया कि ओएनजीसी की 29 जून को हुई निदेशक मंडल की 308वीं बैठक में ओएनजीसी समूह की कंपनियों के पुनर्गठन को सैद्धांतिक मंजूरी दे दी गई साथ ही मुख्य कारोबार को एकीकृत करने के लिए कुछ कारोबारों से बाहर आने की भी अनुमति दी गई है।
• पिछले साल अक्तूबर में सरकार ने पवन हंस में 51% हिस्सेदारी बिक्री का प्रस्ताव किया था।
• ओएनजीसी ने भी विनिवेश एवं सार्वजनिक परिसंपत्ति प्रबंधन विभाग (दीपम) के सामने उसकी 49% हिस्सेदारी को भी इसी तरह बेचने का प्रस्ताव रखा, लेकिन तब कंपनी को इसके लिए अपने निदेशक मंडल से मंजूरी लेना थी, जो अब उसे मिल गई है।

नीरज चोपड़ा ने फ्रेंच एथलेटिक्स मीट में जीता गोल्ड

• भारत के भाला फेंक (जेवलिन थ्रोअर) नीरज चोपड़ा ने फ्रांस के सोतेविल में आयोजित हुई ऐथलेटिक्स मीट में स्वर्ण पदक जीत लिया है।
• नीरज चोपड़ा ने गोल्ड मेडल जीतने के लिए 85.17 मीटर दूर भाला फेंका था। प्रतियोगिता में मोलडोवा के एंड्रियन मार्डारे दूसरे नंबर पर रहे, वहीं तीसरे नंबर पर लिथुआनिया के एडिस रहे।
• आपको बता दें, 20 साल के नीरज चोपड़ा ने इसी साल कॉमनवेल्थ खेलों में भी गोल्ड मेडल जीता था।

Cabinet approves MoU amongst BRICS Nations on Regional Aviation Partnership

• The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) amongst BRICS Nations on the Regional Aviation Partnership Cooperation viz. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Salient features:

• The objective is that BRICS countries would benefit from the establishing of an institutional framework to cooperate in the field of civil aviation. Among the areas of cooperation, following areas have been identified:
• Public Policies and best practices in regional services;
• Regional Airports;
• Airport infrastructure management and air navigation services;
• Technical cooperation between regulatory agencies;
• Innovation;
• Environment Sustainability; including deliberation of global initiatives;
• Qualification and Training;
• Other fields as mutually determined

Impact:

• The MoU signifies an important landmark in the civil aviation relations between India and other BRICS Member States and has the potential to spur greater trade, investment, tourism and cultural exchanges amongst the BRICS Nations.

Special Remission to Prisoners on eve of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

• The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi gave its approval to grant Special Remission to Prisoners as part of Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
• As part of commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the following categories of prisoners will be considered for special remission and released in three phases.
• In Phase-l, the prisoners will be released on 2nd October, 2018 (Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi),
• in Phase-ll prisoners will be released on 10th April, 2019 (Anniversary of Champaran Satyagrah) and
• Phase-Ill, prisoners will be released on 2nd October 2019 (Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi):-

o   Women convicts of 55 years of age and above, who have completed  50% of their actual sentence period.

o   Transgender convicts of 55 years of age and above, who have completed 50% of their actual sentence period.

o   Male convicts of 60 years of age and above, who have completed 50% of their actual sentence period.

o   Physically challenged/disabled convicts with 70% disability and more  who have completed 50% of their actual sentence period.

o   Terminally ill convicts.

o   Convicted prisoners who have completed two-third (66%) of their actual sentence period.

• Special remission will not be given to prisoners who have been convicted for an offence for which the sentence is of death or where death sentence has been commuted to life imprisonment;
• Cases of convicts involved in serious and heinous crimes like Dowry death, Rape, Human Trafficking and convicted under POTA, UAPA, TADA, FICN, POCSO Act, Money Laundering, FEMA, NDPS, Prevention of Corruption Act, etc.
• Ministry of Home Affairs will issue advice to all States and UTs asking them to process the cases of eligible prisoners.
• State Governments and UT Administrations will be advised to constitute a Committee to examine the cases. State Governments will place the recommendations of the Committee before Governor for consideration and approval under Article 161 of the Constitution. After the approval, the prisoners will be released on 2nd October 2018, 10f/l April, 2019 and 2nd October, 2019.
• Background:
• The 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is a significant occasion and giving special remission to prisoners on this important occasion is considered desirable and befitting the commemoration and would be a homage to the Father of Nation and the humanitarian values Mahatma Gandhi stood for.

Expert group formed to develop monitoring and prediction tools for thunderstorms

• Ministry of Earth Sciences has formed an expert group consisting of scientists from India Meteorological Department (IMD), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) as members of the working group.
• The expert group is mandated to development of different monitoring and prediction (based on different techniques) tools for thunderstorms.
• The group is expected to come out with a better strategy for monitoring and predicting thunderstorms by March 2019.
• Ministry of Earth Sciences has already advertised the call for proposal on “Thunderstorm and Meso-scale Processes Prediction (THUMP) to receive research proposals from universities and academic institutions in the country specifically in this focussed area.
• The ongoing augmentation of the IMD’s observational network would help in improving the mesoscale prediction system.
• The proposed augmentation of radar Network of IMD, especially over northwest Himalayas, will also enable wider coverage under Thunderstorm Nowcasting.
• The Thunderstorm expert group is mandated to develop high resolution operational prediction system by March 2019. Ministry has also invited specific project proposals from universities on thunderstorm studies for research funding.
• Thunderstorms are a regular feature, especially during the pre-monsoon season (March to June) in India.
• Thunderstorms are small scale (10-50 km) weather systems with a life span of couple of hours.  Thunderstorms are often accompanied by rain, violent winds, lightning, and hail, thereby posing serious hazardous problems to the general public and various socio-economic sectors like aviation, agriculture, transport, power supply etc.
• For many years, India Meteorological Department (IMD), and other institutes of the Ministry of Earth Sciences and universities in India are involved in basic research on thunderstorms.

Cabinet approves establishment of Medical College, Salempur at Deoria

• The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the State Government of Uttar Pradesh for establishment of new medical college at Deoria at a cost of Rs.250 crore under Phase-II of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
• Under Phase-II of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for establishment of new medical colleges attached with existing District/Referral hospitals, the criteria for one medical in every three Parliamentary Constituencies and one Government medical college in each State was adopted.
• Accordingly, a requirement of 24 additional medical colleges including eight medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh has been approved.
• The State Government has informed that Salempur is part of District Deoria and Salempur Parliamentary Constituency is partly covered under District Deoria.
• The District Hospital, Deoria is also suitable as it has sufficient number of beds and other facilities including availability of land as per MCI norms for the establishment of medical college of all possible locations in the identified Block.

Viresh Kunda bags bronze in Asian Junior Wrestling C’ships

• Viresh Kunda bags bronze in Greco Roman category
• Greco Roman wrestler Viresh Kundu bagged a Bronze medal on Day 2 of the Asian Junior Championships in New Delhi.
• The 20-year old, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, defeated South Korea's Jeongyul Kwon, 14-5 in the 97 kg Bronze medal play-off to win his first international medal.
• Apart from Kundu, none of the Indian grapplers managed to win a medal, as the Greco-Roman competitions came to a close.
• On the opening day of the Championships, India had clinched 4 medals - 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze.

10th edition of Delhi Dialogue begins in New Delhi

• India is set to hold the tenth edition of Delhi Dialogue, the premier annual event to discuss politico-security, economic and socio-cultural engagement between India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), on 19-20 July.
• External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will chair the ministerial session on 19 July.Singapore foreign minister Vivian Balakrishnan and Vietnam deputy foreign minister Vu Hong Nam have confirmed their presence as of now.
• The Delhi Dialogue has been held annually since 2009 and political leaders, policy makers, senior officials, diplomats, think tanks and academicians from both sides participate in the discussions pertaining to ASEAN-India relations.
• The meet is aimed at finding a common ground and expanding the scope of cooperation between India and ASEAN nations.
• This year, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) might feature in talks at the dialogue with Singapore's finance minister Heng Swee Keat calling for a conclusion by the end of the year.
• The RCEP is a free trade area (FTA) consisting of 10 ASEAN members (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Laos and Vietnam) and their six FTA partners: India, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
• 2017 marked 50 years of ASEAN. The ninth edition of the Delhi Dialogue also coincided with the 25 years of ASEAN-India ties.

Women have fundamental right to enter Sabrimala temple, says SC

• Banning women aged between 10 and 50 from entering the Sabarimala temple in Kerala runs afoul of their constitutional rights, the Supreme Court observed
• Hearing a batch of petitions challenging the age-old prohibition on women in the menstruating age group in the famed hill shrine, the apex court said women’s right to worship is a constitutional one and it does not depend on laws.
• If there is a temple, then it is a public place and everyone is allowed to go there. If men can go there, women can also go.
• Following attempts by some women’s groups to enter the temple disregarding the restrictions early this year, the authorities made age proof mandatory for women to enter the temple.
• According to court - Every woman is also the creation of God and why should there be discrimination against them in employment or worship? All persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right freely to profess, practise and propagate religion. This means your right as a woman to pray is not dependent on a legislation. It is your constitutional right.
• CJI also opposed the stand of the Kerala government that ceremonial rules pertaining to temples and method of worship are set by the temple and are protected under the right to worship.
• Kerala government in 2015 had supported entry of women but made a U-turn in 2017.
• Senior advocate Indira Jaising, appearing for one of the intervenors, assailed the practice and said ban on women  entry of certain age groups was violative of various fundamental rights including Art 17 which deals with untouchability.

IAF to participate in multinational exercise in Australia for 1st time

• The Indian Air Force (IAF) is participating in the multinational "Pitch Black" warfare exercise in Australia.
• The IAF contingent for the July 24-August 18 biennial multi-national large force employment warfare exercise will consist of 145 air-warriors including Garud team, four Su-30MKI fighters, one C-130 special operations aircraft and one C-17 transporter.
• Pitch Black is hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and will see eight other nations participating with over 100 aircraft.
• The IAF contingent led by Group Captain CUV Rao is expected to assemble at Air Force Station Kalaikunda and depart for the exercise on July 19 from India to Australia via Indonesia.
• The IAF men and machines will undertake simulated air combat exercises in a controlled environment and mutual exchange of best practices towards enhancing its operational capability.
• During the flight from India to Australia and back, Su-30MKI fighters will carry out air-to-air refuelling with IL-78 tankers.

Israel passes law to declare that only Jews have right of self-determination

• Israel has passed a law to declare that only Jews have the right of self-determination in the country, something members of the Arab minority called racist and verging on apartheid.
• The nation-state law, backed by the right-wing government, was passed by a vote of 62 for and 55 against and two abstentions in the 120-member parliament after months of political argument.
• Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Knesset after the vote that this is a defining moment in the annals of Zionism and the history of the state of Israel.
• The law was enacted just after the 70th anniversary of the birth of the state of Israel. It stipulates that Israel is the historic homeland of the Jewish people and they have an exclusive right to national self-determination in it.
• The bill also strips Arabic of its designation as an official language alongside Hebrew, downgrading it to a special status that enables its continued use within Israeli institutions.

• ONGC board approves exiting Pawan Hans, to sell 49% stake
• Oil and Natural Gas Corporation- ONGC- the premier Public Sector Natural gas company has approved exiting its helicopter service provider Pawan Hans by selling its entire 49 per cent stake.
• The Board of Directors of ONGC took this decision. The move is expected to cut debt and consolidate resources in this core oil and gas business. ONGC wants its interest to be clubbed with the 51 per cent government stake that is already on offer for sale. 
• The offer for sale for government's 51 per cent stake in Pawan Hans which has been floated twice in the last 10 months, is likely to be reissued with an amended expression of interest.
• Pawan Hans Limited is a helicopter service company based in New Delhi, India. Pawan Hans is a Mini Ratna-I category PSU. It has cumulatively flown more than 1 million hours and has had 2.5 million landings on its fleet since its formation. The operations are based at the Juhu Aerodrome in Vile Parle (West), Mumbai.

Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra bags Gold at Sotteville Athletics meet

• India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in Sottevile Athletics meet.
• The 20-year-old covered a distance of 85.17 meters to finish on top of the podium.

क्षेत्रीय उड्डयन भागीदारीसाठी BRICS देशांसोबत सामंजस्य कराराला मंजुरी

• केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडळाने क्षेत्रीय उड्डयन भागीदारीसाठी ब्राझील, रशिया, भारत, चीन आणि दक्षिण आफ्रिका (BRICS) देशांसोबत सहकार्यासाठी सामंजस्य करारावर स्वाक्षरी करण्यास मंजुरी दिली आहे.
• करारामुळे नागरी उड्डयनाच्या क्षेत्रात सहकार्यासाठी संस्थात्मक आराखड्याची स्थापना करण्याने BRICS देशांना फायदा होईल.
• BRICS हा ब्राझील, रशिया, इंडिया, चीन आणि साऊथ आफ्रिका या पाच राष्ट्रांचा समूह आहे. 2011 मध्ये BRIC समुहात दक्षिण आफ्रिकेचा समावेश करण्यात आला आणि समूहाला BRICS नाव दिले गेले. 2009 सालापासून BRICS राष्ट्रे औपचारिक परिषदेत दरवर्षी भेट घेतात.

महात्मा गांधींच्या 150 व्या जयंती निमित्त कैद्यांना विशेष सवलत

• केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडळाने महात्मा गांधी यांच्या 150व्या जयंतीनिमित्त कैद्यांना विशेष सवलती द्यायला मंजुरी दिली आहे.
• महात्मा गांधींची 150वी जयंती साजरी करण्याचा एक भाग म्हणून पुढील गटातील कैद्यांचा विशेष सवलतीसाठी विचार केला जाईल आणि तीन टप्प्यांमध्ये त्यांची सुटका केली जाईल.
• पहिल्या टप्प्यात 2 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी (महात्मा गांधी जयंती) कैद्यांची सुटका केली जाईल. दुसऱ्या टप्प्यात 10 एप्रिल 2019 रोजी (चंपारण सत्याग्रहाचा वर्धापन दिन) तर तिसऱ्या टप्प्यात 2 ऑक्टोबर 2019 रोजी (महात्मा गांधी जयंती) कैद्यांची सुटका केली जाईल. 55 किंवा त्याहून अधिक वय असलेल्या महिला ज्यांनी त्यांच्या एकूण शिक्षेच्या 50% शिक्षेचा कालावधी पूर्ण केला आहे. 55 किंवा त्याहून अधिक वय असलेले तृतीयपंथीय ज्यांनी एकूण शिक्षेपैकी 50% शिक्षेचा कालावधी पूर्ण केला आहे. 60 वर्ष आणि त्याहून अधिक वयाचे पुरूष कैदी, ज्यांनी एकूण शिक्षेपैकी 50 टक्के शिक्षेचा कालावधी पूर्ण केला आहे. 70% अपंगत्व असलेले अपंग कैदी ज्यांनी एकूण शिक्षेपैकी 50% शिक्षेचा कालावधी पूर्ण केला आहे. ज्यांना फाशीची शिक्षा सुनावण्यात आली आहे किंवा त्याचे रुपांतर आजन्म तुरुंगवासात झाले आहे अशा कैद्यांना या सवलती मिळणार नाहीत. तसेच हुंडाबळी, बलात्कार, मानवी तस्करी आणि पोटा, टाडा, पॉक्सो कायद्याअंतर्गत दोषी यांना ही सवलत मिळणार नाही.

उत्तरप्रदेशाच्या देवरिया जिल्हयात नवीन शासकीय वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालयाच्या स्थापनेस मंजुरी

• केंद्रीय मंत्रिमंडळाच्या आर्थिक व्यवहार विषयक समितीच्या बैठकीत 250 कोटी रुपये खर्चाच्या देवरिया जिल्हयातल्या सालेमपूर येथील नवीन वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालय स्थापनेच्या उत्तरप्रदेश राज्य शासनाच्या प्रस्तावाला मंजुरी दिली आहे.
• केंद्र पुरस्कृत योजनांच्या दुसऱ्या टप्प्यात जिल्हा रुग्णालयांशी संलग्न नवीन वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालये स्थापनेसाठी तीन संसदीय क्षेत्रात एक वैद्यकीय आणि प्रत्येक राज्यात एक शासकीय वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालय स्थापण्याचा निकष ठरविण्यात आला आहे. यानुसार 24 अतिरिक्त वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालये ज्यात उत्तरप्रदेशातील 8 वैद्यकीय महाविद्यालयांना मंजुरी देण्यात आली आहे.

दिल्ली संवादाच्या 10 व्या बैठकीचा शुभारंभ

• 19 जुलै 2018 रोजी ‘स्ट्रेन्दनिंग इंडिया-ASEAN मेरीटाइम कोऑपरेशन' या विषयाखाली नवी दिल्लीत ‘दिल्ली संवादा’च्या 10 व्या बैठकीचे आयोजन करण्यात आले.
• दिल्ली संवाद भारत आणि ASEAN देश यांच्यातला राजकीय-सुरक्षा, आर्थिक आणि सामाजिक-सांस्कृतिक संबंधांविषयी चर्चा करण्यासाठीचा एक प्रमुख वार्षिक कार्यक्रम आहे. या चर्चेमध्ये राजकीय नेतृत्व, धोरण निर्माते, अधिकारी, राजकीय नेते, व्यावसायिक नेते, वैचारिक संस्था आणि शिक्षणतज्ञांनी भाग घेतला. 
• दक्षिण पूर्व आशियाई राष्ट्रांचा संघ (ASEAN) हा विविध स्वरुपात आर्थिक आणि विकास क्षेत्रांमध्ये सहकार्य सुनिश्चित करण्यासाठी ब्रुनेई दरुसालेम, कंबोडिया, म्यानमार, मलेशिया, फिलीपीन्स, सिंगापूर, लाओ PDR, इंडोनेशिया, थायलंड, व्हिएतनाम या राष्ट्रांचा क्षेत्रीय आंतरसरकारी समूह आहे. याची निर्मिती मलेशिया, फिलीपीन्स, सिंगापूर, इंडोनेशिया, थायलंड या देशांनी 8 ऑगस्ट 1967 रोजी केली. ASEAN हा संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघाचा अधिकृत निरीक्षक आहे.

सबरीमाला मंदिरात महिलांना प्रवेश करण्याचा हक्क आहे: सर्वोच्च न्यायालय

• न्या. दीपक मिश्रा यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली सर्वोच्च न्यायालयाच्या खंडपीठाने केरळमधील सबरीमाला मंदिरात महिलांना प्रवेश करण्याचा मूलभूत हक्क आहे अशी स्पष्टता देत निकाल महिलांच्या बाजूने दिला आहे.
• धार्मिक परंपरेनुसार, केरळमधील 800 वर्ष जुन्या सबरीमाला मंदिरात केवळ पुरुषांना प्रवेश दिला जातो, परंतु 10 ते 50 वर्षे वयोगटातल्या महिलांना प्रवेश नाकारण्यात आला.

केवळ यहूद्यांना स्व-निर्णय क्षमतेचा हक्क देणारा इस्रायलचा नवा कायदा

• इस्रायल एक नवा कायदा पारित केला आहे, जो केवळ यहुद्यांना (ज्यू) देशामध्ये स्व-निर्णय क्षमतेचा अधिकार देत आहे.
• इस्रायलच्या जन्माच्या 70 व्या वर्धापन वर्षानंतर असा कायदा करण्यात आला आहे. कायद्यान्वये इस्रायल हे ज्यू लोकांचे ऐतिहासिक स्थळ आहे आणि त्यांना राष्ट्रीय स्व-निर्णय क्षमतेचा अधिकार दिला गेला आहे. देशाच्या इतिहासातला एक निर्णायक क्षण मानला जात आहे. या सोबतच अरबी आणि हिब्रू भाषांचा अधिकृत दर्जा समाप्त करत त्यांना विशेष दर्जा देण्यात आला आहे.
• इस्रायल हा नैऋत्य आशियामधील एक देश आहे. याला आग्नेय भूमध्य सागरची पूर्व किनारपट्टी लाभलेली आहे. जेरूसलेम ही देशाची (स्व-घोषित मात्र विवादीत) राजधानी आहे आणि इस्रायली न्यू शेकेल हे देशाचे चलन आहे. इस्रायलच्या 90 लक्ष लोकसंख्येत जवळपास 20% अरबी अल्पसंख्याक आहेत.

• तेल व नैसर्गिक वायू महामंडळ (ONGC) ने ‘पवन हंस’ या हेलिकॉप्टर सेवा पुरवठादार कंपनीमधून आपली संपूर्ण 49% हिस्सेदारी विकण्याचा निर्णय घेतला आहे आणि त्यास संचालक मंडळाने मंजुरी दिलेली आहे.
• ONGC ने आपल्या तेल आणि वायू व्यवसायातले कर्ज कमी करण्यासाठी आणि स्त्रोतांचा कमीतकमी वापर करण्यासाठी हा निर्णय घेतला आहे.

• भारताचा ग्रीको रोमन मल्ल विरेश कुंडा याने नवी दिल्लीत सुरू असलेल्या आशियाई कनिष्ठ कुस्ती अजिंक्यपद या स्पर्धेत कांस्यपदक पटकावले. त्याने दक्षिण कोरियाच्या जेओंग्युल क्वोनचा पराभूत करुन त्याचे पहिले आंतरराष्ट्रीय पदक जिंकले.
• या व्यतिरिक्त साजनने 77 किलो वजन गटात सुवर्णपदक पटकावले. या स्पर्धेच्या पहिल्या दिवशी भारताने एकूण 4 पदके मिळविली, त्यात साजनच्या सुवर्णासह 2 रौप्य व एक कांस्यपदकाचा समावेश आहे. विजय (55 किलो), आर्यन पनवर (130 किलो) यांना रौप्य तर कुमार सुनीलने (87 किलो) कांस्यपदक मिळविले.

• भारताचा भालाफेक खेळाडू नीरज चोपडाने फ्रान्समधील सोत्तेविले शहरात आयोजित ‘सोत्तेविले अॅथलेटिक्स मीट 2018’ या स्पर्धेत सुवर्णपदकाची कमाई केली आहे.
• नीरज चोपडाने 85.17 मीटर दूर भाला फेकत हे सुवर्ण पटकावले आहे. राष्ट्रकुल स्पर्धेपाठोपाठ नीरजचे हे दुसरे सुवर्णपदक ठरले आहे. या स्पर्धेत मोल्डोवाच्या अॅड्रियनने रौप्य तर लिथुनियाच्या एडिसने कांस्यपदक पटकावले आहे.

• अर्थशास्त्र मंत्रालयाने भारतीय हवामानशास्त्र विभाग (IMD), भारतीय उष्णकटिबंधीय हवामानशास्त्र संस्था (IITM) आणि राष्ट्रीय मिडियम रेंज हवामान अंदाज केंद्र (NCMRWF) येथील शास्त्रज्ञांचा समावेश असलेल्या तज्ञ गटाची स्थापना केली आहे.

• वायुसेनाचे गरुड तुकडीचे 145 सैनिक, चार सुखोई-30 MKI आणि C-130 व C-17 वाहतूक विमानांचा यात सहभाग असणार आहे.
• ‘पिच ब्लॅक’ हा रॉयल ऑस्ट्रेलियन एअर फोर्स (RAAF) द्वारा आयोजित केला जाणारा द्वैवार्षिक बहुराष्ट्रीय युद्धसराव आहे.
