    President of India gives assent to The Constitution (One Hundred and Third Amendment) ACT, 2019

    President Ram Nath Kovind on 12 January gave his assent to the bill providing 10 per cent reservation in jobs and educational institutions to the economically weaker sections in the general category.
    The Constitution (124 Amendment) Bill, 2019 was passed in the Lok Sabha on 8th January and the Rajya Sabha a day later.

    Sovereign Gold Bond Scheme 2018-19 (Series V) to be opened for the period from 14th to 18th January, 2019

    The Sovereign Gold Bonds 2018-19 (Series V) will be opened for the period January 14-18, according to RBI.
    The government has fixed the price at Rs 3,214 per gram for the new series of sovereign gold bonds.

    India's longest single lane steel cable bridge opened in Arunachal

    India’s longest 300-metre single lane steel cable suspension bridge was inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on 9 January 2019.
    The bridge across the Siang river at Yingkiong in Upper Siang district has been named Byorung Bridge.

    India's 1st Manned Mission To Space By December 2021: ISRO

    Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) on 12 January said that it is well prepared to meet the targets of launching Gaganyaan manned mission to outer space by December 2021.
    ISRO also said that the initial training for Gaganyaan will be done in India and advanced training maybe in Russia. A woman astronaut is likely to be there on the team.

    MEA Sushma Swaraj On 2 Day Visit To Uzbekistan

    External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on 12 January left for a two-day visit to Uzbekistan to attend the first India-Central Asia Dialogue which is expected to focus on a plethora of regional issues including enhancing connectivity to war-ravaged Afghanistan.
    The Dialogue, being held in Samarkand, will be co-chaired by Swaraj and Uzbekistan's Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.

    EIU Democracy Index 2018: Norway Tops, India Ranks 41st

    The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has just released its annual democracy index.
    To rank the countries the EIU gives a score out of 10 for a number of categories, such as political participation and the functioning of government, then classifies each country as either full democracy, flawed democracy, hybrid regime or authoritarian.

    Albie Morkel Retires From All Forms Of Cricket

    South African all-rounder Albie Morkel on 09 Jan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, putting an end to nearly 20-year of professional cricketing career.
