प्रधान मंत्री ने राष्ट्र को ''स्टेचू ऑफ़ यूनिटी'' समर्पित की

• सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल की 143वीं जयंती के मौके पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने उनकी प्रतिमा का अनावरण किया।
• बता दें, सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल स्वतंत्र भारत के पहले गृहमंत्री थे।

          क्यों खास है यह प्रतिमा 

• सरदार पटेल की यह प्रतिमा विश्व की सबसे ऊँची प्रतिमा है।
• इस प्रतिमा की उंचाई 182 मीटर है और इस मूर्ती को यानी 'स्टैच्यू ऑफ यूनिटी' को सरदार सरोवर डैम पर बनाया गया है।

31 अक्टूबर को मनाया गया 'राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस'

• 31 अक्टूबर को सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल की जयंती 'राष्ट्रीय एकता दिवस' के रूप में मनाई जाती है।
• विभिन्न मंत्रालयों, सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के प्रतिष्ठानों और संगठनों द्वारा इस अवसर पर अनेक कार्यक्रम आयोजित किये जा रहे हैं।

          सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल के बारे में

• सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल का जन्म 31 अक्टूबर, 1875 को हुआ और उनका देहांत 15 दिसंबर, 1950 को हुआ
• वे भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी थे। भारत की आजादी के बाद वे देश के प्रथम गृह मंत्री और उप-प्रधानमंत्री बने।

          ऐसे प्राप्त हुई सरदार की उपाधि

• बारडोली सत्याग्रह का नेतृत्व कर रहे पटेल को सत्याग्रह की सफलता पर वहाँ की महिलाओं ने सरदार की उपाधि प्रदान की।
• आजादी के बाद विभिन्न रियासतों में बिखरे भारत के भू-राजनीतिक एकीकरण में केंद्रीय भूमिका निभाने के लिए पटेल को भारत का बिस्मार्क और लौह पुरूष भी कहा जाता है।

आईएनएस तरंगिनी दुनियाभर में यात्रा करने के बाद लौट आई

• भारतीय नौसेना का प्रशिक्षण पोत ‘INS तरंगिनी’ सात महीने की लंबी जलयात्रा के बाद 30 अक्टूबर को दक्षिणी नौसेना कमान के आधार शिविर लौट आई।
• इस दौरान उसने दुनियाभर के 13 देशों के 15 बंदरगाहों का सफर किया।
• दक्षिणी नौसेना कमान के चीफ ऑफ स्टॉफ रियर एडमिरल 'आर जे नाडकरर्णी' ने एक भव्य समारोह में पोत का स्वागत किया।
• जलयात्रा का नाम ‘लोकायन 18’ दिया गया था। इसे यहां से 10 अप्रैल को रवाना किया गया था।

          INS तरंगिनी के बारे में

• आईएनएस तरंगिनी को 1997 में बनाया गया था और इस जहाज को बनाने का उद्देश्‍य नए चालक दल को प्रशिक्षण देना था।
• तीन मस्तूलों वाले इस आईएनएस तरंगिनी का निर्माण ब्रिटेन के नेवल आर्किटेक्ट कोलिन मुडी की डिजाइन के आधार पर गोवा में किया गया था।
• आईएनएस तरंगिनी भारतीय नौसेना का पहला वह जहाज है, जो वर्ष 2003-04 में पूरी दुनिया का भ्रमण कर चुका है।

          क्यों पड़ा इसका नाम INS तरंगिनी

• जहाज का तरंगिनी नाम हिन्दी शब्द तरंग से जुड़ा है, जिसका मतलब लहर होता है। इस तरह तरंगिनी का मतलब, जो लहरों की सवारी करे।
• दूसरी तरफ, जलयात्रा का नाम ‘लोकायन 18’ दिया गया था। लोकायन संस्कृत शब्द ‘लोक्या’ मतलब पूरी दुनिया और ‘यान’ मतलब यात्रा शब्द से बना है, जिसका शाब्दिक अर्थ दुनिया की यात्रा करना।

मलाला युसूफजई को जल्द सम्मानित करेगा हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय

• नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार विजेता मलाला युसूफजई को लड़कियों की शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने के लिए हार्वर्ड विश्वविद्यालय सम्मानित करेगा।
• हार्वर्ड के केनेडी स्कूल ने जानकारी दी कि 6 दिसंबर को आयोजित होने वाले एक समारोह में मलाला युसूफजई को 2018 का ''ग्लेट्स्मैन पुरस्कार'' दिया जाएगा।
• बता दें युसूफजई को 2014 में सबसे कम उम्र में नोबेल शांति पुरस्कार पाने का गौरव मिला था।
• इससे पहले लड़कियों की शिक्षा की वकालत करने के कारण पाकिस्तान में तालिबान आतंकियों ने उनपर हमला किया था, जिसमें वह बेहद गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गई थीं। हमले के बाद से ही वह और उनका परिवार इंग्लैंड में रह रहा है।
• आपको बता दें, ग्लेट्स्मैन अवॉर्ड के तहत दुनियाभर में लोगों के जीवन स्तर में सुधार के लिए काम करने वाले को 1,25,000 डॉलर की राशि पुरस्कार स्वरूप दी जाती है।

देबाशिष कार गुप्ता ने कलकत्ता एचसी के मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में शपथ ली

• कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश देबाशीष कार गुप्ता को 30 अक्टूबर को पदोन्नत कर वहीं पर मुख्य न्यायाधीश बनाया दिया गया है।
• मुख्य न्यायाधीश ज्योतिर्मॉय भट्टाचार्य के सितंबर माह में सेवानिवृत्त होने के बाद से देबाशीष कार गुप्ता उच्च न्यायालय के मुख्य कार्यकारी न्यायाधीश के रूप में काम कर रहे थे।
• राज्यपाल केशरी नाथ त्रिपाठी ने उन्हें उच्च न्यायालय में पद की शपथ दिलाई।

प्रौद्योगिकी शिखर सम्मेलन 2019 : नीदरलैंड होगा साझेदार देश

• विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री, पृथ्वी विज्ञान, पर्यावरण, वन और जलवायु परिवर्तन मंत्री डॉ हर्षवर्धन ने यह घोषणा की है कि 2019 में आयोजित होने वाले 25वें DST – CII टेक्नोलॉजी शिखर सम्मेलन में नीदरलैंड्स साझेदार देश होगा।
• डॉ हर्षवर्धन प्रौद्योगिकी सम्मेलन-2019 को बेहतर करने के लिए, शिखर सम्मेलन के दौरान वैश्विक भागीदारी को आमंत्रित किया, ताकि यह संस्करण अब तक का सबसे बड़ा और सबसे सफल शिखर सम्मेलन बन सके।
• बता दे, 30 अक्टूबर को दिल्ली में भारत और इटली के बीच दो दिवसीय प्रौद्योगिकी शिखर सम्मेलन2018 आयोजन किया गया था।
• इस शिखर सम्मेलन का फोकस नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा, स्वच्छ प्रौद्योगिकी, सूचना और संचार प्रौद्योगिकी, स्वास्थ्य सेवा, एयरोस्पेस और शिक्षा पर था।

Prime Minister dedicated Statue of Unity to Nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation world's tallest statue, the Statue of Unity, at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat on 31^st Oct.
The 182-metre statue of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is being unveiled on his birth anniversary on 31^st Oct.

The statue has been built at a cost of about 2,400 crore rupees. Approximately 70,000 tons of cement in addition to 18,500 tons of reinforcement steel and 6000 tons of structural steel has been used to build the statue. 1700 metric tons of bronze has also been used.
It was built by famous Indian scupltor Ram Sutar.
Near the statue, Mr Modi unveiled the ‘Wall of Unity’ which has been created with the earth samples collected from various states across the country.
As part of the effort to make the region around the statue a tourist spot, many projects like Valley of Flowers and Tent City have been developed.

Remembering the Iron Man of India

Born into a middle class family in Gujarat on 31^st October 1857, is called Bismarck of India. Followed the same Iron and Blood policy as Bismarck used in 19^th century in uniting India after independence.

Title of Sardar

In 1917, Sardar Vallabhbhai was elected as the Secretary of the Gujarat Sabha, the Gujarat wing of the Indian National Congress. In 1918, he led a massive “No Tax Campaign” that made the problem solving of the farmers not to pay taxes after the British insisted on tax after the floods in Kaira.
The peaceful movement forced the British authorities to return the land taken away from the farmers. His effort to bring together the farmers of his area brought him the title of ‘Sardar’.

Preventing Balkanization of India after Independence

Sardar Patel had the tough task of unifying the 500+ princely states into one homogenous country. The princely states covered almost 48% of the area. Legally, they were not part of British India but subordinate to the British crown. The British gave an option to the princely states to join India or Pakistan. The task of Sardar Patel was very tough from 1947 to 1950. The situation needed a realist and fortunately India has on – the Saradar.
There were mainly five princely states who refused to join India. They were Travancore, Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Junagadh and Bhopal.
Travancore, Jodhpur and Bhopal followed the suit subsequently but the remaining two were difficult.
The case of Hyderabad was by far the most significant and complicated challenge among the princely states. During the independence of the country, Nizam Mir Usman Ali was presiding over a largely Hindu population. The Nizam also drew support from Jinnah who pledged to defend the oldest Muslim dynasty in India. For Patel, however, an independent Hyderabad was equivalent to having cancer in the belly of India. On September 13, Indian troops were sent to Hyderabad in what came to be known as ‘Operation Polo’ and Hyderabad became part of India.
Junagadh was the second state where Sardar Patel had to take a decisive action. Muhammad Mahabat Khanji III ruled over a large Hindu population. In early 1947, the Dewan of Junagadh, Nabi Baksh invited Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto of the Muslim league to join the state council of minister. When Pakistan accepted Junagadh’s request for accession, the Indian leaders were enraged as it went against Jinnah’s two nation theory. Vallabhbhai Patel requested Pakistan to allow a plebiscite in Junagadh. In the face of acute shortage of funds and forces, the Dewan was forced to accede to the Indian government. Eventually, on February 20, 1948, a plebiscite was held in the state wherein 91 percent of the voters chose to join India.

INS Tarangini returns after Voyage across the World

The sail training ship of Indian Navy INS Tarangini returned to its base at the Southern Naval Command on 3o Oct after a seven-month long voyage, covering 15 ports in 13 countries across the world.
It ended its journey at Cochin Naval base.
INS Tarangini sailed across the Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea, Strait of Gibraltar, North Atlantic Ocean, Bay of Biscay, English Channel and North Sea, right up to Norway before commencing her homeward passage.
It is the first sail training ship of the Indian navy. It was commissioned on November 11, 1997 and in the 21 years of its glorious service till date, the ship has sailed over 2,20,000 nautical miles across the world's oceans.

MOD, GRSE sign contract for supply of 4 survey vessels for Indian Navy

Public Sector defence shipyard (company) Garden Rich Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has won the defence ministry’s contract worth Rs. 2435 Cr for building four large survey vessels for the Indian Navy.
The first ship will be delivered within 36 months from the date of signing the contract and subsequent balance ships within an interval of six months for each vessel.
The GRSE is currently handling a major project to make 3 stealth frigates for Indian Navy under P17A project.

Netherlands to be Partner Country 25th DST–CII Technology Summit 2019

Netherlands will be the partner country for the 25^th DST-CII Technology Summit 2019.
India has quite successful bilateral reseach cooperation in Internet of Things (IoT), medical devices, water systems and big data.

DST-CII Technology Summit 2018

A two-day technology summit between India and Italy began in Delhi on 30 October.
The focus of the summit was renewable energy, clean technology, information and communication technology, healthcare, aerospace, education and preservation of cultural heritage.
In 2016, Italian exports into India amounted to US$3.9 billion dollars; Indian exports into Italy accounted for US$4.9billion dollars. Italian businesses see India as an increasingly attractive trading partner.

Malala Yousafzai to be honoured by Harvard University

Nobel Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai will be honoured by Harvard University for her work promoting girls' education. Harvard's Kennedy School said Yousafzai will be conferred with the 2018 Gleitsman Award at a ceremony on 6th December.
The Gleitsman Award provides 125,000 US dollars for activism that has improved quality of life around the world.

Malala Yousafzi

Yousafzai became the youngest person to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 when she was recognized for her global work supporting schooling for all children. As a teen in Pakistan, she survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban. She later founded the nonprofit Malala Fund to support her work.
Now aged 20, Yousafzai is a student at Oxford University in England.

Debasish Kar Gupta sworn in as Calcutta HC chief justice

Justice Debasish Kar Gupta was sworn in as the chief justice of the Calcutta High Court here on 30 Oct.
Justice Gupta was functioning as the acting chief justice of the Calcutta high court after Chief Justice Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya retired in September.

Sikkim HC chief justice also appointed

Justice Vijai Kumar Bist was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court on 30 Oct.
The post fell vacant following the superannuation of Justice Satish Kumar Agnihotri on June 31.

गुजरातमध्ये ‘स्टॅच्यू ऑफ युनिटी’चे राष्ट्रार्पण

• गुजरातमध्ये नर्मदा नदीच्या तीरी उभारण्यात आलेला भारताचे लोहपुरुष सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल यांचा पुतळा राष्ट्राला अर्पण करण्यात आला आहे. हा जगातला सर्वात उंच (182 मीटर / 597 फूट) पुतळा ठरला आहे.
• गुजरातच्या नवागाम गावाजवळ असलेल्या सरदार सरोवर नर्मदा धरण येथे उभारण्यात आलेल्या या पुतळ्याला ‘स्टॅच्यू ऑफ युनिटी’ असे संबोधले जात आहे. याच्या जवळच 17 किलोमीटरच्या परिसरात ‘फुलांची घाटी’ (Valley of Flowers) तयार केली जात आहे.
• नर्मदा नदी - मध्यप्रदेश राज्यात वसलेले अमरकंटक हे नर्मदा नदीचे उगमस्थान आहे. समुद्रसपाटीपासून 1057 मीटर उंचीवर मैकल पर्वतरांगांमध्ये या नदीचा उगम होतो. नर्मदा नदी मुख्यतः मध्य भारतामध्ये वाहते. तिच्या पात्राची एकूण लांबी सुमारे 1,289 किलोमीटर एवढी आहे. नदी पूर्वेकडून वाहत पश्चिम दिशेकडे अरबी समुद्राला मिळते. ती 'भरोंच' नावाच्या ठिकाणी महासागरात विलीन होते. ती भारतातली पश्चिमेकडे वाहणारी सर्वात मोठी नदी आहे.

जगभ्रमंती करून ‘INS तारांगिनी’ मायदेशी परतली

• भारतीय नौदलाचे ‘INS तारांगिनी’ हे जहाज जगभ्रमंती करून दिनांक 30 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी भारतात दक्षिणी नौदल आदेशाखालील कोचीमधील तळावर परतले आहे.
• दिनांक 10 एप्रिल 2018 रोजी सुरू झालेल्या या प्रवास मोहिमेला ‘लोकायन 18’ हे नाव दिले गेले होते. INS तारांगिनीने आपल्या सात महिन्यांच्या प्रवासात 13 देशांमधील 15 बंदरांना भेटी दिल्या. जहाजाने फ्रान्समधील बोर्डेक्स येथे आयोजित 'थ्री फेस्टिव्हल टॉल शिप्स रेगाटा' आणि 'टॉल शिप्स रेसेस युरोप 2018' या कार्यक्रमातही भाग घेतला.
• ‘INS तारांगिनी’ भारतीय नौदलाच्या दक्षिणी आदेशाखाली कोचीतल्या प्रथम प्रशिक्षण तुकडीचा एक भाग आहे. हे सन 2003-04 मध्ये जगभरात भ्रमण करणारे भारतीय नौदलाचे पहिले जहाज आहे. तीन शिडांचे हे जहाज 1997 साली भारतीय नौदलात सामील करण्यात आले. या जहाजाची बांधणी ब्रिटिश नौकाकार कॉलिन मुडी यांनी तयार केलेल्या संरचनेच्या आधारावर गोवामध्ये करण्यात आली होती.

नेदरलँड: ‘DST-CII तंत्रज्ञान शिखर परिषद 2019’ याचा भागीदार देश

• दिनांक 29 व 30 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी नवी दिल्लीत ‘DST-CII भारत इटली तंत्रज्ञान शिखर परिषद 2018’ याचे आयोजन करण्यात आले होते.
• या परिषदेत नेदरलँड हा 25वी ‘DST-CII भारत इटली तंत्रज्ञान शिखर परिषद’ याचा भागीदार देश असणार अशी घोषणा करण्यात आली आहे. या कार्यक्रमाचे आयोजन भारतीय उद्योग महासंघ (CII) आणि इटलीचे विज्ञान व तंत्रज्ञान विभाग हे एकत्रितपणे करतात.  
• भारतीय उद्योग महासंघ (Confederation of Indian Industry -CII) ही भारतातली एक व्यवसाय संघटना आहे. याची स्थापना 1895 साली झाली आणि त्याचे 8,300 सदस्य आहेत. याचे मुख्यालय नवी दिल्लीत आहे. CII धोरणासंबंधी मुद्द्यांमध्ये भारत सरकारसोबत कार्य करते.

व्यक्ती विशेष

देबाशीश कार गुप्ता: कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालयाचे नवे मुख्य न्यायाधीश

• दिनांक 30 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी न्या. देबाशीश कार गुप्ता यांनी कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालयाचे मुख्य न्यायाधीश पदाची शपथ घेतली आहे.
• न्या. ज्योतिर्मय भट्टाचार्य सप्टेंबर-18 मध्ये सेवानिवृत्त झाल्यानंतर न्या. गुप्ता कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालयाचे प्रभारी मुख्य न्यायाधीश म्हणून कार्यरत होते.

पुरस्कार

मलाला यूसुफझाई हार्वर्ड विद्यापीठाकडून सन्मानित

• मुलींच्या शिक्षणास प्रोत्साहन देण्यासाठी पाकिस्तानी कार्यकर्त्या मलाला यूसुफझाई यांना हार्वर्ड विद्यापीठाकडून 2018 सालचा ग्लीट्समन पुरस्काराने सन्मानित करण्यात येणार असल्याचे जाहीर झाले आहे. 2014 साली नोबेल शांती पुरस्कार जिंकणार्‍या युसूफझाई दिनांक 6 डिसेंबर 2018 रोजी एका समारंभात हा पुरस्कार दिला जाणार आहे.
• जगभरातले जीवनमान सुधारण्यासाठी दिलेल्या योगदानासाठी व्यक्तीला हार्वर्ड विद्यापीठाकडून ग्लीट्समन पुरस्कार दिला जातो. पुरस्कार स्वरुपात विजेत्याला USD 125,000 इतकी रोख रक्कम दिली जाते.

संरक्षण आणि सुरक्षा

भारतीय नौदलाला सर्वेक्षणासाठी 4 जहाजे पुरविण्यासाठी MOD, GRSE यांच्यात करार

• भारतीय नौदलाला सागरी सर्वेक्षणासाठी चार मोठी जहाजे पुरविण्यासाठीचे कंत्राट कोलकाताच्या गार्डन रीच शिपबिल्डर्स अँड इंजिनियर (GRSE) या सार्वजनिक कंपनीला देण्यात आले आहे.
• 3300 टन वजनी जहाजाची लांबी 110 मीटर इतकी असेल. खोल सागरी भागाचे सर्वेक्षण करण्यासाठी उपकरणे बसविण्यात येणार आहे. जहाजबांधणीसाठी 2,435.15 कोटी रुपयांचा निधी संरक्षण मंत्रालयाकडून मंजूर झाला.
