एशियन चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी: भारत और पाकिस्तान बने संयुक्त रूप से विजेता

• गत चैंपियन भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच 28 अक्टूबर को एशियन चैंपियंस ट्रॉफी हॉकी का फाइनल मुकाबला खराब मौसम के कारण रद्द कर दिया गया, जिसके कारण दोनों टीमों को संयुक्त रूप से विजेता घोषित कर दिया गया।
• बता दें कि भारत ने 27 अक्टूबर को एशियाई खेलों की स्वर्ण पदक विजेता जापान को 3-2 से हराकर फाइनल में प्रवेश किया था।
• दूसरी तरफ से पाकिस्तान ने अन्य सेमीफाइनल में मलयेशिया को शूटआउट में 3-1 से पराजित किया कर फाइनल में कदम रखा था।
• इस मुकाबले में निर्धारित समय तक दोनों टीमें 4-4 से बराबरी पर थीं।
• भारत ने इस प्रतियोगिता में मलयेशिया से गोलरहित ड्रॉ के अलावा अपने सारे मैच जीते हैं।

फेसबुक-ट्विटर की फर्जी खबरों की निगरानी के लिए नया टूल विकसित

• फेसबुक, ट्विटर जैसे सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म पर अब फर्जी खबरें फैलाना संभव नहीं रह जाएगा।
• अमेरिका के यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ मिशिगन के शोधकर्ताओं ने एक ऐसा वेब आधारित टूल विकसित किया है जो सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म पर पोस्ट की जाने वाली फर्जी खबरों की निगरानी कर सकने में सक्षम होगा।
• इस टूल का नाम है 'इफ्फी क्वोशंट'। इफ्फी क्वोशंट ने सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म पर मौजूद शीर्ष 5000 यूआरएल की जांच की है।
• यह यूआरएल की पहचान के बाद उन्हें निर्धारित कैटेगरी में बांटकर वर्गीकृत कर देता है। इससे उनकी निगरानी आसान हो जाती है।

माइकल डी हिगिन्स बने आयरिश राष्ट्रपति

• देश के चुनाव वोट के 56% प्राप्त करने के बाद माइकल डी हिगिन्स को आयरिश राष्ट्रपति के रूप में फिर से निर्वाचित किया गया है। बिजनेसमैन पीटर केसी 23.1% के साथ दूसरे स्थान पर रहे।
• माइकल डैनियल हिगिन्स एक आयरिश राजनेता हैं, जिन्होंने नवंबर 2011 से आयरलैंड के नौवें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में कार्य किया है।
• हिगिन्स  एक राजनेता, कवि, समाजशास्त्री और प्रसारणकर्ता है। उन्होंने गॉलवे वेस्ट निर्वाचन क्षेत्र के लिए कार्य किया है और 1993 से 1997 तक कला, संस्कृति और गेटेलैच मंत्री भी रह चुके हैं।
• बता दें, आयरलैंड उत्तरी अटलांटिक में एक द्वीप है। इसे ग्रेट ब्रिटेन से पूर्व में उत्तर चैनल, आयरिश सागर और सेंट जॉर्ज चैनल द्वारा अलग किया गया है।
• आयरलैंड ब्रिटिश द्वीपों का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा द्वीप है, जो पृथ्वी पर बीसवां सबसे बड़ा द्वीप है।

राष्ट्रभर में जागरूकता सप्ताह मनाया जाएगा

• सार्वजनिक जीवन में सत्‍यनिष्‍ठा को बढ़ावा देने और भ्रष्‍टाचार मुक्‍त समाज बनाने के लिए 29 अक्टूबर से देशभर में सतर्कता जागरूकता सप्‍ताह का आयोजन किया जाएगा।
• इसका विषय है- भ्रष्‍टाचार मिटाओ नया भारत बनाओ।
• सप्‍ताह के दौरान भ्रष्‍टाचार के प्रति जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए कई कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए जाएंगे।
• बता दें, सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल के जन्मदिन के साथ हर साल सतर्कता भ्रष्टाचार सप्ताह मनाया जाता है।

जेयर बोल्सनारो बने ब्राजील के नए राष्ट्रपति

• सेना के पूर्व कैप्टन जेयर बोलसोनारो को 28 अक्टूबर को ब्राजील का नया राष्ट्रपति चुन लिया गया है।
• आधिकारिक नतीजों के अनुसार निर्वाचित राष्ट्रपति बोलसोनारो को 55.13 फीसदी मत प्राप्त हुए, जबकि उनके वामपंथी प्रतिद्वंद्वी फर्नांडो हद्दाद को 44.87 फीसदी मत मिले।
• वह सोशल लिबरल पार्टी (पीएसएल) के सदस्य हैं।
• वह 1 जनवरी 2019 को 38वें राष्ट्रपति के रूप में पदभार संभालेगा।

गुजरात में राज्य वन विभाग ने फूलों की घाटी विकसित की

• वन विभाग, गुजरात सरकार नर्मदा नदी के किनारे पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करने के लिए 'Valley of Flowers' यानी फूलों की घाटी विकसित कर रही है।
• बता दें,  फूलों की यह घाटी 17 किमी क्षेत्र में तैयार की जा रही है।
• फूलों की इस घाटी में 100 से ज्यादा तरह के पेड़, पौधे और फूल आकर्षण का मुख्य केंद्र होंगे।
• इस परियोजना के पहले चरण में, लगभग 250 हेक्टेयर क्षेत्र को कवर किया जाएगा। बाद के चरण में, इसे 3,000 हेक्टेयर तक बढ़ाया जाएगा।
• इसी तरह एडवेंचर पार्क, गार्डन ऑफ फाइव सेंस, स्टैच्यू के साथ सेल्फी, सरदार गार्डन जैसे पार्क भी आगंतुकों (पर्यटकों) के लिए विकसित किए जा रहे हैं।

प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य देखभाल पर वैश्विक सम्मेलन

• 25-26 अक्टूबर को अस्ताना में प्राथमिक स्वास्थ्य देखभाल पर वैश्विक सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन किया गया।
• कजाकिस्तान गणराज्य के प्रधानमंत्री ''बी. सगींतयव'' ने उद्घाटन समारोह और उच्च स्तरीय सत्र में भाग लिया।
• 140 डब्ल्यूएचओ सदस्य राज्यों के प्रतिनिधियों, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय संगठनों और विश्व अकादमिक अभिजात वर्ग अस्ताना में एकत्र हुए।
• इस दौरान कुल 1,500 प्रतिभागियों ने कार्यक्रम में भाग लिया जोकि कज़ाखस्तान सरकार, विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन और यूनिसेफ सरकार द्वारा आयोजित किया गया था।
• बता दें, अस्ताना मध्य एशिया के कज़ाख़स्तान देश की राजधानी और यहाँ का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा शहर है।

पहले मेगा फूड पार्क का उद्घाटन किया गया

• केंद्रीय खाद्य प्रसंस्करण उद्योग मंत्री हरसिमरत कौर बादल ने गुजरात के पहले मेगा फूड पार्क का उद्घाटन किया।
• यह जिला सूरत में स्थित है।
• गुजरात के मेहसाणा जिले में मंत्रालय द्वारा एक दूसरा मेगा फूड पार्क भी स्वीकृत किया गया है।
• यह मेगा फूड पार्क 70.15 एकड़ की भूमि में 117.87 करोड़ रुपये की लागत में निर्मित है।
• मेगा फूड पार्क पार्क में 25-30 खाद्य प्रसंस्करण इकाइयों में लगभग 250 करोड़ रुपये का अतिरिक्त निवेश का लाभ प्राप्त करेगा।

India, Pakistan declared joint winners of Asian Champions Trophy

India and Pakistan were declared joint winners of Asian Champions Trophy 2018 as the match was cancelled due to heavy rain on 28 October.
Asian Champions Trophy 2018 was held in Muscat, Oman.
Asian Hockey Champions Trophy is conducted by Asian Hockey Federation (ASF) every year since 2011.
It features top 6 Asian hockey teams in a Round Robin format.
Round Robin format allows each participant to meet all the other participants in turn.

Scientists develop web-based tool to monitor fake news on Facebook, Twitter

Researchers from the University of Michigan in the US have developed a web-based tool to monitor fake news on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.
The tool uses a Platform Health Metric called the ‘Iffy Quotient’, which draws data from two external entities: NewsWhip and Media Bias/Fact Checker.

How the Iffy Quotient works?

The NewsWhip is a social media engagement tracking firm, which collects URLs from hundreds of thousands of sites each day and then gathers information on, which of these sites have engagements on Facebook and Twitter.

The Iffy Quotient queries NewsWhip for the top 5000 most popular URLs on the two social media platforms.

Then the tool checks to see if those domain names have been flagged by Media Bias/Fact Check, which is an independent site that classifies various sources based on their reliability and bias.

The tool divides the URLs into three categories based on the media bias and fact checklists:
Iffy:  If the site is on the Questionable Sources or Conspiracy lists

OK: If the site is on any other list, such as Left-Bias, Right-Bias or Satire

Unknown: If it is not on any list.

Michael D Higgins re-elected as Irish president for second term

Michael D Higgins has been elected for a second term as President of Ireland, with a total of 822,566 votes (55.8%).
Mr Higgins is the first president to be re-elected to serve a second term in office since Éamon de Valera in 1966.
The president is Ireland's "first citizen", but has limited power - the role is mainly symbolic and he or she cannot get involved in daily politics.

Ireland is a Christian country where 82% population is Catholic. Recently, Ireland government decriminalised Blasphemy which has been into existence since centuries.

Vigilance Awareness Week to be observed across the Nation

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is observing the Vigilance Awareness Week during 29th October to 3rd November, 2018 on the theme Eradicate Corruption-Build a New India.
During the period, through its various outreach activities, it seeks to motivate stakeholders to collectively participate in the fight against corruption and also aims at raising public awareness regarding the detrimental consequences of corruption.
Vigilance Awareness Week is observed every year in the last week of October (on the birthday of Sardar Patel – 31^st Oct) to 1^st week of November.

Central Vigiliance Commission

It has the status of an autonomous and statutory body, free of control from any executive authority, charged with monitoring all vigilance activity under the Central Government of India, advising various authorities in central Government organizations in planning, executing, reviewing and reforming their vigilance work.
It consists of a vigilance commissioner who is appointed by the president on the recommendation of Prime Minister + Home Minister + Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.
It is an advisory body and government can accept the recommendation or reject it. CVC does not have adequate resources compared with number of complaints that it receives. It is a very small set up with sanctioned staff strength of 299. Whereas, it is supposed to check corruption in more than 1500 central government departments and ministries.
CVC cannot direct CBI to initiate inquiries against any officer of the level of Joint Secretary and above on its own. Such permission has to be obtained from the concerned department.

Jair Bolsonaro wins Brazil presidential elections

Jair Bolsonaro has won a sweeping victory in Brazil's presidential election.
Mr Bolsonaro won 55.2% of the votes cast against 44.8% for Fernando Haddad from the left-wing Workers' Party.
Brazil had been under Left rule for the last 13 years. However, the victory of Mr. Bolsonaro indicates a turn towards right.

Gujarat State forest department developing Valley of Flowers

Gujarat is developing a valley of flowers project on the bank of river Narmada as tourist attraction.
It is located near the world’s tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Sardar Sarovar Narmada dam which will be inaugurated on 31^st October.
It will cover an area of 17 KM.

UN  adopts Declaration of Astana on Universal Health Care

In an important step toward achieving universal health coverage (UHC), United Nations member states agreed to the Declaration of Astana at the Global Conference on Primary Health Care on 25 Oct in Astana, Kazakhstan.
By endorsing this declaration, UN states have agreed to act on four primary components: “(1) make bold political choices for health across all sectors; (2) build sustainable primary health care; (3) empower individuals and communities; and (4) align stakeholder support to national policies, strategies, and plans.
This week’s announcement of the Declaration of Astana restores commitments made in the 1978 Declaration of Alma-Ata — when world leaders first committed to prioritizing primary health care.

• देशभरात 29 ऑक्टोबर ते 3 नोव्हेंबर हा काळ ‘दक्षता जागृती आठवडा’ (Vigilance Awareness Week) म्हणून पाळला जात आहे. यावर्षी हा आठवडा ‘इर्‍याडीकेट करप्शन – बिल्ड ए न्यू इंडिया’ (भ्रष्टाचार मिटवा - एक नवा भारत बनवा' या विषयाखाली पाळला जात आहे.
• भारतात केंद्रीय दक्षता आयोग (CVC) दरवर्षी 29 ऑक्टोबर ते 3 नोव्हेंबर हा काळ ‘दक्षता जागृती आठवडा’ (Vigilance Awareness Week) म्हणून पाळतात. सार्वजनिक जीवनात एकात्मता वाढवण्यासाठी आणि भ्रष्टाचार मुक्त समाज निर्माण करण्यासाठी देशभरात हा आठवडा पाळला जातो. या आठवड्यात 31 ऑक्टोबर ही तारीख म्हणजे सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल यांची जयंती असते, त्यांच्या स्मृतीत हा आठवडा पाळला जातो.

• संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघाने ‘सार्वत्रिक आरोग्य सेवेविषयक अस्ताना घोषणापत्र’ अंगिकारले आहे. दिनांक 28 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी कझाखस्तानची राजधानी अस्ताना येथे पार पडलेल्या ‘प्राथमिक आरोग्य सेवेविषयक वैश्विक परिषद 2018’ या कार्यक्रमाच्या शेवटी हे घोषणापत्र स्वीकारण्यात आले.
• या परिषदेत 1978 साली अंगिकारलेल्या ऐतिहासिक ‘अल्मा-अटा घोषणापत्र’ची पुन्हा एकदा आठवण करून दिली गेली. ‘अल्मा-अटा घोषणापत्र’ हे जागतिक नेत्यांनी प्राथमिक आरोग्य सेवेविषयक अंगिकारले गेलेले सर्वात पहिले दस्तऐवज होते. सार्वत्रिक आरोग्य सेवा सर्वांना उपलब्ध करून देण्याच्या उद्देशाने प्राथमिक आरोग्य सेवा क्षेत्रात अधिकाधिक गुंतवणूक वाढविण्यासाठी वैश्विक चळवळ म्हणून नवे घोषणापत्र ठरणार आहे.
• जागतिक आरोग्य संघटना (WHO), संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघ बाल कोष (UNICEF) आणि कझाखस्तान  सरकार यांनी या जागतिक परिषदेचे सह-आयोजन केले.

• फेसबुक आणि ट्विटर यासारख्या सोशल मीडिया मंचावरील फसव्या बातम्यांवर पाळत ठेवण्यासाठी मदत व्हावी यासाठी अमेरिकेच्या मिशिगन विद्यापीठातल्या शास्त्रज्ञांनी नवे संकेतस्थळ आधारित साधन विकसित केले आहे.
• हे साधन ‘इफी क्वोशंट’ (Iffy Quotient) नावाच्या एका प्लॅटफॉर्म हेल्थ मेट्रिकचा वापर करते, जे न्यूजव्हाइप आणि मीडिया बायस / फॅक्ट चेकर या दोन बाह्य तपास घटकांकडून माहिती काढते.

जेयर बोलसनारो: ब्राझीलचे नवे राष्ट्रपती

• जैयर बोलसनारो यांनी ब्राझीलमध्ये पार पडलेल्या राष्ट्रपती पदाच्या निवडणुकीत विजय मिळवला आहे.
• ब्राझील हा दक्षिण अमेरिका खंडातला सर्वांत मोठा देश आहे. ब्रासिलिया हे देशाचे राजधानी शहर आहे आणि ‎ब्राझीलियन रिआल‎ (BRL) हे त्याचे राष्ट्रीय चलन‎ आहे.

गुजरातमध्ये नर्मदेच्या किनारी ‘फुलांची घाटी’ तयार केली जात आहे

• नर्मदा नदीच्या तीरावर 17 किलोमीटरच्या परिसरात गुजरात राज्य वन विभाग ‘फुलांची घाटी’ (Valley of Flowers) तयार करीत आहे. या क्षेत्रात फुलं झाडे, गवत, वृक्षांची एकूण 100 हून अधिक जातींची लागवड ठिबक सिंचन पद्धतीने केली गेली आहे.
• ही फुलांची घाटी भारताचे लोहपुरुष सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल यांच्या पुतळ्याला लागून असलेल्या परिसरात तयार केली जात आहे. गुजरातच्या नवागाम गावाजवळ असलेल्या सरदार सरोवर नर्मदा धरण येथे उभारण्यात आलेल्या या जगातल्या सर्वात उंच (182 मीटर / 597 फूट) पुतळ्याला ‘स्टॅच्यू ऑफ युनिटी’ असे संबोधले जात आहे.
• नर्मदा नदी - मध्यप्रदेश राज्यात वसलेले अमरकंटक हे नर्मदा नदीचे उगमस्थान आहे. समुद्रसपाटीपासून 1057 मीटर उंचीवर मैकल पर्वतरांगांमध्ये या नदीचा उगम होतो. नर्मदा नदी मुख्यतः मध्य भारतामध्ये वाहते. तिच्या पात्राची एकूण लांबी सुमारे 1,289 किलोमीटर एवढी आहे. नदी पूर्वेकडून वाहत पश्चिम दिशेकडे  अरबी समुद्राला मिळते. ती 'भरोंच' नावाच्या ठिकाणी महासागरात विलीन होते. ती भारतातली पश्चिमेकडे वाहणारी सर्वात मोठी नदी आहे.
