प्रधानमंत्री को सियोल शांति पुरस्कार

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्‍द्र मोदी को अंतर्राष्‍ट्रीय सहयोग और वैश्विक आर्थिक विकास को बढ़ावा देने, आर्थिक विकास को गति देकर भारत में लोगों के जीवन स्‍तर को सुधारने तथा भ्रष्‍टाचार निरोधक उपायों और सामाजिक एकता के प्रयासों के जरिए देश में लोकतंत्र को मजबूत बनाने के लिए 2018 के ''सियोल शांति पुरस्‍कार'' से सम्‍मानित किया जाएगा।
• समिति ने कहा है कि वह भारत सहित वैश्विक अर्थव्‍यवस्‍था के विकास में भारत के प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के योगदान और गरीब और अमीर के बीच आर्थिक और सामाजिक विषमताओं की खाई पाटने में ‘मोदीनॉमिक्‍स’ के महत्‍व को स्‍वीकार करती है।
• बता दें, मोदी यह पुरस्कार प्राप्‍त करने वाले 14वें व्‍यक्ति हैं।

• सियोल शांति पुरस्‍कार की शुरूआत 1990 में कोरिया गणराज्‍य में 24वें ओलंपिक खेलों के सफल आयोजन के उपलक्ष्‍य में की गई थी।
• इन खेलों में दुनिया भर के 160 देशों के खिलाडि़यों ने भाग लेते हुए सद्भाव, मित्रता, शांति और आपसी मेल-मिलाप के विश्वव्यापी माहौल का निर्माण किया।
• यह पुरस्‍कार कोरियाई लोगों को देश और दुनिया में शांति बनाए रखने की इच्‍छा का प्रतीक है।

प्रधानमंत्री ने 'मैं नहीं हम’ पोर्टल और एप लांच किया

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने 24 अक्टूबर को नई दिल्ली में 'मैं नहीं हम' पोर्टल और एप लॉन्च किया।
• 'मैं नहीं हम' पोर्टल 'सेल्फ4सोसाइटी' की थीम पर काम करेगा।

          क्या होगा असर

• इससे आईटी पेशेवरों और संगठनों को सामाजिक मुद्दों और समाज की सेवा के लिए उनके किए गए प्रयासों को एक मंच पर लाने में मदद मिलेगी।
• ऐसा करने में यह पोर्टल समाज के कमजोर तबकों की सेवा में खासकर प्रौद्योगिकी के फायदों के जरिए बड़े सहयोग को बढ़ावा देने में उत्प्रेरक की भूमिका निभाएगा।

2024 तक भारत तीसरा सबसे बड़ा विमानन बाजार बन जाएगा: रिपोर्ट

• हवाई यात्रियों की संख्या में वृद्धि के बारे में पूर्वानुमान जारी किया गया है।
• भारतीय विमानन उद्योग यात्रियों की संख्या के लिहाज से वर्ष 2024 तक ब्रिटेन को पछाड़ कर दुनिया का तीसरा सबसे बड़ा विमानन बाजार बन जाएगा।
• अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाई परिवहन संघ (आईएटीए) ने 24 अक्टूबर को कहा कि भारत में 2024 तक कुल हवाई यात्रियों की संख्या 8.2 अरब तक पहुंचने का अनुमान है।
• इस सूची में मौजूदा समय में अमरीका, चीन और ब्रिटेन हैं।

 कार्यस्थल पर यौन उत्पीड़न के मामलों को देखने के लिए मंत्री समूह का गठन किया गया

• सरकार ने कार्यस्थल पर यौन उत्पीड़न के मामलों से निपटने और इसे रोकने के लिए कानूनी एवं संस्थागत ढांचों को मजबूती देने के वास्ते गृहमंत्री राजनाथ सिंह के नेतृत्व में एक मंत्री समूह (जीओएम) का गठन किया है।
• गृह मंत्रालय के एक अधिकारी ने कहा कि मंत्री समूह के सदस्यों में सड़क परिवहन मंत्री नितिन गडकरी, रक्षा मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमण और महिला एवं बाल विकास मंत्री मेनका गांधी शामिल हैं।
• मंत्री समूह कार्यस्थल पर महिलाओं के यौन उत्पीड़न से संबंधित मामलों से निपटने के लिए मौजूदा कानूनी और संस्थागत ढांचों का परीक्षण करेगा।
• मंत्री समूह का गठन 'मी टू' आंदोलन के मद्देनजर किया गया है जिसके तहत कई महिलाओं ने कार्यस्थल पर अपना यौन उत्पीड़न करने वालों का सार्वजनिक रूप से नाम लिया है।
• बता दें, 'मी टू' आंदोलन के तहत ही पूर्व महिला सहकर्मियों द्वारा कार्यस्थल पर अपने यौन उत्पीड़न का आरोप लगाया था जिसके बाद पूर्व संपादक एम जे अकबर को विदेश राज्यमंत्री के पद से इस्तीफा देना पड़ा था।

उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय ने 1 अप्रैल 2020 से बीएस-4 मानक के वाहनों की बिक्री और पंजीकरण पर रोक लगाई

• उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय ने कहा है कि भारत स्‍टेज़, बीएस-4 मानक के वाहनों की बिक्री पहली अप्रैल 2020 से नहीं होगी और न ही ऐसे वाहन पंजीकृत किए जाएंगे।
• उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय ने 24 अक्टूबर अपने आदेश में कहा कि नये उत्‍सर्जन मानक लागू करने की समय-सीमा में किसी प्रकार का विस्‍तार करने से नागरिकों के स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य पर विपरीत प्रभाव पड़ेगा क्‍योंकि प्रदूषण चिंताजनक स्‍तर पर पहुंच गया है।
• न्‍यायालय ने कहा कि नागरिकों के स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य के साथ किसी प्रकार का समझौता नहीं किया जा सकता और इसको प्राथमिकता देनी होगी।
• न्‍यायालय ने कहा कि यह दुर्भाग्‍यपूर्ण है कि कुछ ऑटो मोबील कंपनियां समय सीमा बढ़ाना चाहती हैं।
• सरकार ने मोटर वाहनों के होने वाले वायु प्रदूषण को नियंत्रित करने के लिए बीएस-उत्‍सर्जन मानक तय किए हैं।

वैश्विक कृषि नेतृत्व शिखर सम्मेलन 2018 नई दिल्ली में आयोजित

• वैश्विक कृषि नेतृत्व शिखर सम्मेलन-2018 की शुरुआत 24 अक्टूबर को नई दिल्ली में हुई।
• दो दिवसीय शिखर सम्मेलन का विषय था ''Connecting Farmers to Market''।
• शिखर सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन सचिव कृषि और सहकारिता संजय अग्रवाल ने किया था।
• बैठक में, 2022 तक किसानों की आय को दोगुना करने के कई मुद्दों पर चर्चा की गई।

विराट कोहली दस हज़ारी क्लब में शामिल

• क्रिकेट टीम इंडिया के कप्‍तान विराट कोहली ने 24 अक्टूबर को विशाखापट्टनम में वेस्‍टइंडीज के खिलाफ दूसरे वनडे मैच में नाबाद 157 रन (129 गेंद, 13 चौके और चार छक्‍के) बनाए।
• उन्‍होंने वनडे में अपने 10 हजार रन पूरे करने के साथ साथ होमग्राउंड पर चार हजार रन भी पूरे करने की उपलिब्‍ध हासिल की।
• उन्‍होंने कैलेंडर ईयर में 11वीं पारी में ही 1000 रन का आंकड़ा भी छू लिया।
• विराट कोहली की उपलब्धियों को सम्‍मान देते हुए क्रिकेट की शीर्ष संस्‍था इंटरनेशनल क्रिकेट काउंसिल (आईसीसी) ने 24 अक्टूबर को अपने ट्विटर हैंडल का कवर पेज कोहली को समर्पित किया।
• गौरतलब है कि विराट ने सीरीज के पहले वनडे में भी 140 रनों की बेहतरीन पारी खेली थी और वे मैन ऑफ द मैच रहे थे और इस मैच में भी उन्हें मैन ऑफ द मैच चुना गया।
• विराट अब तक वनडे मैचों में 37 शतक बना चुके हैं और इस मामले में मास्‍टर ब्‍लास्‍टर सचिन तेंदुलकर ही उनसे आगे हैं। सचिन के वनडे मैचों में 49 शतक हैं।
• वे 212वें वनडे मैच की 205वीं पारी में 10,000 रन पूरे करके सबसे कम पारियों में यह मुकाम हासिल करने वाले बल्लेबाज बने। इससे पहले यह रिकार्ड तेंदुलकर के नाम पर था जिन्होंने 259 पारियों में यह उपलब्धि हासिल की थी।
• कोहली वनडे में 10,000 रन पूरे करने वाले दुनिया के 13वें और भारत के पांचवें बल्लेबाज बने।
• भारत के जिन बल्लेबाजों ने कोहली से पहले यह उपलब्धि हासिल की थी उनमें तेंदुलकर (18,426 रन), सौरव गांगुली (11,363), राहुल द्रविड़ (10,889) और महेंद्र सिंह धोनी (10,123) शामिल हैं. धोनी ने भारत की तरफ से हालांकि 9949 रन बनाये हैं और उन्हें अपनी राष्ट्रीय टीम की तरफ से वनडे में 10,000 रन पूरे करने के लिये 51 रन की दरकार है।
• धोनी ने 2007 में एशिया एकादश की तरफ से खेलते हुए अफ्रीका एकादश के खिलाफ तीन मैचों में 174 रन बनाये थे जिससे वह हाल में समाप्त हुए एशिया कप के दौरान ‘दस हजारी' क्लब में शामिल हो गये थे।

Centre issues fourth draft of Western Ghats ‘no go’ zone

Central government has issued Fourth Draft earmarking eco-sensitive area (ESA) on Western Ghats which bans NO GO Zone for any polluting activities and deforestation in the area.

Central government issued similar drafts in the past but states didn’t comply.Central government has asked the states to come up with their objections before 2^ndNovember.National Green Tribunal (NGT) which is hearing the case over the ESA on Western Ghats will give its verdict over the issue.

Western Ghats

Western Ghats consist of 6 states which include Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The draft bans polluting activities in area of 56,825 KM. In the proposed area Karnataka has the highest ESA area of 20,628 KM. These states don’t want large area without development activities and currently states have filed their cases with NGT. The Western Ghats extends over a distance of approximately 1500 KM from Tapti river in the North to Kanyakumari in the South.

Why it is important?

Western Ghats are chains of hills that run along western edge of peninsular India. They receive high rain fall due to their proximity to ocean and through orographic effect. Covering only 5% of India’s land surface, Ghats’s harbour more than 4000 (including 1800 endemic) plant species. Nilgiri langur, lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri tahr, Malabar grey hornbill and most amphibian species are endemic.

It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a biodiversity hotspot, the Western Ghats ecoregion is a storehouse of natural treasures found nowhere else in the world.The region hosts 7,402 species of flowering plants, 1,814 non-flowering plant species, 508 species of birds, 139 species of mammals, 179 amphibian species, 290 freshwater fish species, and as many as 6,000 insect species.

It is a Eco sensitive zone and Indian government needs to protect it.

Prime Minister Modi to be conferred with Seoul Peace Prize

The Seoul Peace Prize Committee has decided to confer the 2018 Seoul Peace Prize on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in recognition of his dedication to improving international cooperation, raising global economic growth, accelerating the Human Development of the people of India by fostering economic growth in the world's fastest growing large economy and furthering the development of democracy through anti-corruption and social integration efforts.

Modinomics

Modinomics is a term used by prize committee to highlight the PM Modi efforts towards reducing social and economic disparity between the rich and the poor. His contribution such as Swach Bharat were also lauded with his foreign policy of Act East Policy.

Seoul Peace Prize

The Seoul Peace Prize was established in 1990 to commemorate the success of the 24th Olympic Games held in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

The Seoul Peace Prize has been awarded biennially to those individuals who have made their mark through contributions to the harmony of mankind, reconciliation between nations and to world peace. Past recipients include distinguished global personalities like former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and renowned international relief organizations like Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam.

Prime Minister launches ‘Main Nahi Hum’ portal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Main Nahi Hum portal and app on 24 October.

It will enable IT professionals and organisations to bring together their efforts towards social causes and service to society on one platform. The portal is expected to help catalyse greater collaboration towards the service of the weaker sections of society, especially by leveraging the benefits of technology. It is also expected to generate wider participation of interested people who are motivated to work for the benefit of society.

India to become third largest aviation market by 2024: Report

India will become the world's third largest aviation market around 2024 surpassing the UK, according to International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The present trends in air transport suggest passenger numbers could double to 8.2 billion in 2037.

The Asia-Pacific region is projected to drive the biggest growth with more than half the total number of new passengers over the next 20 years coming from these markets.

India will be at the third place in 2024 after China and the USA.

Aviation Sector in India

India is a strong aviation market as the recent report discussed above shows. Most of the aviation manufacturing is concentrated in one city that is Bangalore.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, India’s air passenger traffic has grown by at least 16% annually over the past decade.In 2017, Indian airlines flew nearly 140 million passengers, most of them domestic.

India’s major airlines such as Air India, Spice Jet, Jet Airways and others are making losses every year.

Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) costs remain as big a pain in Indian carriers’ necks now as they were when the financial crisis hit. The Centre charges 14% excise duty on ATF. The states pile on their own sales tax that can go as high as 29%. 

Government’s Effort

The most significant is the first-of-its-kind Regional Connectivity Scheme, UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), which has brought affordable flying at Rs 2,500 to fliers on interior routes. For this, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has brought unserved and underserved locations on the air transport grid through viability gap funding to airline operators, on routes ranging up to 800 km.

2 Child norm is valid even if 3^rd given for adoption: SC

The Supreme Copurt on 24 October ruled that birth of a third child would automatically disqualify a person from contesting panchayat polls and from holding the post of a member of Sarpanch.

What is the case?

A tribal Sarpanch in Odisha wanted to contest the Panchayat elections but he was having three child. So he gave away his third child in adoption to comply with the two child norm.

Panchyati Raj Act says that any person having three live births in his/her family from contesting panchayat elections or holding posts in panchayats.

What SC meant by this?

Supreme Court said the legislative intent is to restrict the number of births in a family and not on the basis of benefit available under the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act regulating the number of children by giving the excess children in adoption.

Centre constitutes GoM on sexual harassment of women at workplace

The Central government has constituted a Group of Ministers (GoM) to examine the existing legal and institutional frameworks for dealing with matters of sexual harassment of women at the workplace. 

Group of Ministers

The GoM will be headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi will be the members of the group.

Within three months of its constitution, the GoM will examine the existing provisions for the safety of women and recommend further measures.

Women and Child Development Ministry has launched an Electronic Complaints Box that enables women, irrespective of their work status, to raise their voice against sexual harassment at workplace. Once a complaint is submitted to the ‘SHE-Box’, it is directly sent to the concerned authority having jurisdiction to take action into the matter. A mechanism will be put in place to regularly monitor the action taken on the complaints.

No sale and registration of BS-IV vehicle from 1 April 2020: SC

A fresh Supreme Court (SC) order has put automakers in a tight spot. The apex court on 24 Oct banned the sale of Bharat Stage-IV (BS-IV) vehicles in the country, with effect from April 1, 2020.

What is BS?

The government has set up BS emission standard to control the degrading air quality. BS-VI, which is based on the European regulations (Euro norms) and originally to be introduced in 2024, has been now rescheduled to 2020, instead. And, the country will move directly from BS-IV to BS-VI.

Why this move?

India is a signatory to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and has pledged to cut its carbon emissions by 33-35% by 2030. The court’s verdict is being hailed as a step forward in that direction.

• दिनांक 24 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांच्या हस्ते 'मै नही हम' हे डिजिटल व्यासपीठ असलेले संकेतस्थळाचा व अॅपचा शुभारंभ करण्यात आला आहे.
• "सेल्फ4सोसायटी" या विषयावर हे व्यासपीठ कार्य करते आणि हे माहिती तंत्रज्ञान व्यावसायिक आणि संस्थांना सामाजिक कार्यासाठी आणि समाजसेवेसाठी त्यांना एकत्र आणण्यास मदत करणार.

तिसरे मूल दत्तक घेता येत असले तरीही दोन मुलांचा नियम वैध असेल: सर्वोच्च न्यायालय

• सर्वोच्च न्यायालयाने कुटुंब योजनेसंबंधी निर्णय घेत हा निर्णय दिला आहे की, तिसरे मूल दत्तक घेता येत असले तरीही दोन मुलांचा नियम वैध असणार आहे.
• नियमानुसार, केवळ दोन मुलांना जन्म दिला असल्यास पंचायत निवडणूक लढविता येणार तसेच पंचायतीमध्ये सरपंच वा सदस्य पद धारण करण्यास पात्र आहेत. व्यक्तीला जन्म दिलेले तिसरे मूल असल्यास ती व्यक्ती अपात्र ठरते.

कामाच्या ठिकाणी होणारा स्त्रियांच्या लैंगिक छळ रोखण्यासंदर्भात मंत्र्यांच्या गटाची स्थापना

• कामाच्या ठिकाणी होणारा स्त्रियांच्या लैंगिक छळ रोखण्यासंदर्भात वर्तमानात असलेल्या कायदेशीर आणि संस्थात्मक कार्याचौकटीचा अभ्यास करण्यासाठी केंद्र सरकारने मंत्र्यांच्या गटाची (GoM) स्थापना केली आहे.
• या गटाचे नेतृत्व केंद्रीय गृहमंत्री राजनाथ सिंग यांच्याकडे आहे. गटामधील अन्य सदस्य म्हणजे नितीन गडकरी (रस्ते परिवहन व महामार्ग मंत्री), निर्मला सीतारामन (संरक्षणमंत्री) आणि मनेका गांधी (महिला व बाल विकास मंत्री) हे आहेत. हा गट आपला अहवाल तीन महिन्यांच्या आत सादर करणार आणि पुढील उपाययोजनांची शिफारस करणार.

1 एप्रिल 2020 पासून BS-4 वाहनांची विक्री होणार नाही: सर्वोच्च न्यायालय

• सर्वोच्च न्यायालयाने वाहनांच्या विक्रीसंदर्भात निर्णय घेत दिनांक 1 एप्रिल 2020 पासून देशात भारत स्टेज IV (BS-4) श्रेणीत मोडणार्‍या कोणत्याही वाहनाची विक्री आणि नोंदणी होणार नाही, असा निर्णय दिला आहे. त्यामुळे सध्या तयार होणार्‍या किंवा सध्या रस्त्यावर धावणार्‍या गाड्यांची एप्रिल 2020 नंतर पुनर्विक्रीसुद्धा करता येणार नाही.
• BS-4 हे एक उत्सर्जन मानक आहे. भारत स्टेज इमिशन स्टँडर्डची (BSES) रचना भारत सरकारने केली आहे. या माध्यमातून गाडीतून निघणाऱ्या धुरामधून होणाऱ्या प्रदूषणाचे प्रमाण मोजले जाते. त्यानुसार त्या वाहनाचे वर्गीकरण विविध श्रेणींमध्ये केले जाते.
• 2000 साली BS मानकांची अंमलबजावणी सर्वप्रथम करण्यात आली. ऑक्टोबर 2010 मध्ये देशात BS-3 लागू करण्यात आला. यानंतर देशात 13 प्रमुख शहरांमध्ये एप्रिल 2010 पासून BS-4 लागू झाला. संपूर्ण देशात BS-4 2017 सालापासून लागू करण्यात आला. 2020 सालापासून संपूर्ण देशात BS-5 ऐवजी BS-6 लागू केला जाणार आहे. 

नवी दिल्लीत ‘वैश्विक कृषी नेतृत्व शिखर परिषद 2018’चे आयोजन

• दिनांक 24-25 ऑक्टोबर 2018 रोजी नवी दिल्लीत ‘वैश्विक कृषी नेतृत्व शिखर परिषद 2018’ (Global Agriculture Leadership Summit) याचे आयोजन करण्यात आले.
• 'कनेक्टिंग फार्मर्स टू मार्केट' या विषयाखाली ही परिषद भरविण्यात आली होती. या परिषदेचे आयोजन भारत सरकारच्या कृषी सहकार व कुटुंब कल्याण विभागाकडून करण्यात आले. या परिषदेला भारताच्या हरितक्रांतीचे जन्मदाते प्राध्यापक प्रा. एम. एस. स्वामीनाथन उपस्थित होते.

2024 सालापर्यंत भारत तिसरी मोठी विमान उड्डयण बाजारपेठ बनणार: IATA अहवाल

• इंटरनॅशनल एअर ट्रांसपोर्ट असोसिएशन (IATA) याच्या ‘20-इयर एयर पॅसेंजर फोरकास्ट’ या अहवालानुसार, 2024 सालापर्यंत भारत तिसरी मोठी विमान उड्डयण बाजारपेठ बनणार असा अंदाज बांधण्यात आला आहे.
  
  • वर्तमान कल असाच राहिल्यास 2037 साली भारतात हवाई प्रवाशांची एकूण संख्या 8.2 अब्ज असेल असा अंदाज आहे.
  • चीन 2020च्या दशकात अमेरिकेला मागे टाकत जगातली सर्वात मोठी विमान उड्डयण बाजारपेठ बनणार.
  • आशिया-प्रशांत क्षेत्रामध्ये येणार्‍या पुढील 20 वर्षांमध्ये एकूण नवीन प्रवाशांची संख्या अर्धाहून अधिक या बाजारपेठांमधून येतील, जी सर्वात मोठी वाढ असेल.

पश्चिम घाटला 'नो गो' क्षेत्र घोषित करण्यासंबंधीचा चौथा मसुदा जाहीर

• पश्चिम घाटला 'नो गो' क्षेत्र घोषित करण्यासंबंधीचा चौथा मसुदा केंद्र सरकारने जाहीर केला आहे. मसुद्यात पश्चिम घाटचे 56,825 चौरस किलोमीटरचे क्षेत्र संपूर्णता प्रतिबंधित करून त्या क्षेत्रात प्रदूषण फैलावणारे कोणतेही कार्य आणि जंगलतोड करण्यास मनाई केली जाणार आहे.
• पर्यावरणदृष्ट्‍या संवेदनशील क्षेत्र (ESA) याचे नियोजन करण्यासाठी पर्यावरण मंत्रालयाकडून यापूर्वी सन 2014-17 या कालावधीत तीनदा मसुदा तयार करण्यात आला होता, मात्र ते तीनही त्याअंतर्गत राज्य सरकारांचा सहभाग स्पष्ट करण्यास असमर्थ ठरले होते.
• पश्चिम घाट - उत्तरेकडील तापी नदीपासून ते दक्षिणेकडे कन्याकुमारीपर्यंत या दरम्यानचे 1,500 किलोमीटरचे अंतर, ज्यात सुमारे 600 मीटरहून अधिक सरासरी उंची असलेला भाग आहे, यात पश्चिम घाट पसरलेला आहे. हा प्रदेश गुजरात, महाराष्ट्र, गोवा, कर्नाटक, केरळ आणि तामिळनाडू या राज्यांमध्ये पसरलेला आहे.

• पंतप्रधान नरेंद्र मोदी यांना यंदाचा ‘सेऊल शांती पारितोषिक 2018’ देऊन सन्मानित करण्यात आले आहे.
• आंतरराष्ट्रीय सहकार्य सुधारण्यात, जागतिक आर्थिक प्रगतीत वाढ करण्यात, जगातली सर्वात वेगाने वाढणारी मोठी अर्थव्यवमध्ये आर्थिक वृद्धीला प्रोत्साहन देऊन भारतीयांच्या विकासाला चालना देऊन तसेच भ्रष्टाचार विरोधी आणि सामाजिक एकात्मिकतेच्या प्रयत्नांच्या माध्यमातून लोकशाहीचा विकास करण्यात दर्शविलेल्या त्यांच्या समर्पणासाठी हा पुरस्कार देण्यात आला आहे.
• ‘सेऊल शांती पारितोषिक’ या पुरस्काराची स्थापना सन 1990 मध्ये कोरिया प्रजासत्ताकने केली. हा पुरस्कार सोल पीस प्राइज कमिटीकडून जाहीर केला जातो. हा पुरस्कार मानवजातीच्या भल्यासाठी राष्ट्रांमध्ये आणि जागतिक शांती प्रस्थापित करण्यात योगदान देणार्‍या लोकांना देण्यात येतो.
