सरकार ने मौजूदा वित्त वर्ष में स्वच्छ भारत मिशन के लिए 16,500 करोड़ रुपये आवंटित किये:

• केंद्र सरकार के 71 मंत्रालयों और विभागों ने मौजूदा वित्त वर्ष (वर्ष 2018-19) के दौरान स्वच्छ भारत अभियान के लिए लगभग साढ़े 16 हजार करोड़ रुपए आवंटित किए हैं।
• यह राशि ग्रामीण और शहरी क्षेत्रों में स्वच्छ भारत मिशन के लिए पेयजल और स्वच्छता तथा आवास और शहरी कार्य मंत्रालय की बजट राशि से अधिक है।
• कैबिनेट सचिव पी के सिन्हा ने 11 मई 2018 को नई दिल्ली में सचिवों और वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों की बैठक में स्वच्छता कार्य योजना 2018-19 की शुरुआत की। इस अवसर पर कार्य योजना का सारांश भी जारी किया गया।

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने काठमांडू में अरुण तीन पनबिजली परियोजना की आधारशिला रखी:

• प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और नेपाल के प्रधानमंत्री ने काठमांडू में 11 मई 2018 को अरुण नदी पर बनने वाली अरुण तीन पनबिजली परियोजना की आधारशिला रखी।
• अरुण-3 विद्युत परियोजना की क्षमता 900 मेगावाट है। लगभग 6000 करोड़ भारतीय रुपयों के निवेश की यह परियोजना, नेपाल में होने वाले सबसे बड़े प्रोजेक्ट में एक हैं। रोजगार के अवसरों के साथ इस प्रोजेक्ट से नेपाल में आर्थिक और व्यवसायिक अवसर भी उत्पन्न होंगे।

भारत और पेरू ने लीमा में नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा क्षेत्र में समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए:

• भारत और पेरू ने लीमा में नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा क्षेत्र में समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। पेरू की यात्रा पर गए उपराष्ट्रपति एम. वेंकैया नायडू और पेरू के प्रधानमंत्री सीज़र विलानुएवा अरवालो की उपस्थिति में इस समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर हुए।
• दोनों देशों के बीच औषधि, अंतरिक्ष, रक्षा, एलपीजी आपूर्ति, स्वच्छ ऊर्जा, कृषि तथा विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी क्षेत्र में चर्चा हुई। पेरु के साथ केनुआ की खेती और प्रसंस्करण के क्षेत्र में संभावनाओं की भी चर्चा की गई।
• नायडू मध्य अमरीका के तीन देशों - ग्वाटेमाला, पनामा और पेरू की यात्रा के अंतिम चरण में लीमा में हैं।

अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस: 12 मई

• 12 मई को विश्व भर में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस मनाया जाता है। यह दिन नर्सिंग सेवा की संस्थापक फ्लोरिंस नाइटिंगिल की जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में मनाया जाता है।
• नर्सों की सराहनीय सेवा को मान्‍यता प्रदान करने के लिए भारत सरकार के परिवार एवं कल्‍याण मंत्रालय ने राष्‍ट्रीय फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगल पुरस्‍कार की शुरुआत की। यह पुरस्‍कार प्रत्‍येक वर्ष 12 मई को दिये जाते हैं। यह पुरस्‍कार प्रति वर्ष माननीय राष्ट्रपति द्वारा प्रदान किये जाते हैं।
• आधुनिक नर्सिंग की संस्‍थापक फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगल का जन्‍म 12 मई, 1820 को हुआ था। 1965 से अभी तक यह दिन प्रत्‍येक वर्ष इंटरनेशनल काउंसिल ऑफ नर्सेज द्वारा अन्‍तर्राष्‍ट्रीय नर्स दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
• थीम: वर्ष 2018 के लिए अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस की थीम "नर्सेज ए वॉइस टु लीड: हेल्थ इज ए ह्यूमन राइट" है।

अर्थव्यवस्था और बैंकिंग
भारत-यूएस नवीनीकरण मामले को हल करने के लिए डब्ल्यूटीओ ने पैनल गठित किया:

• विश्व व्यापार संगठन (डब्ल्यूटीओ) ने अक्षय ऊर्जा क्षेत्र में आठ अमेरिकी राज्यों की नीतियों के संबंध में अमेरिका के खिलाफ भारत द्वारा उठाए गए विवाद को हल करने के लिए एक पैनल स्थापित किया है।
• भारत ने आरोप लगाया था कि इन आठ अमेरिकी राज्यों द्वारा लगाए गए घरेलू सामग्री आवश्यकता मानदंड वैश्विक व्यापार नियमों के साथ असंगत हैं। चूंकि दोनों देश द्विपक्षीय परामर्श प्रक्रिया में इस मुद्दे को हल करने में असफल रहे, इसलिए भारत ने विवाद समाधान पैनल बनाने की मांग की थी।
• परामर्श के लिए अनुरोध करना डब्ल्यूटीओ की विवाद निपटान प्रणाली के तहत पहला कदम है। परामर्श बैठक पार्टियों को विवाद वाले मामले पर चर्चा करने और मुकदमेबाजी के साथ आगे बढ़े बिना संतोषजनक समाधान खोजने का मौका देते हैं।
• 60 दिनों के बाद, यदि परामर्श विवाद को हल करने में विफल रहता है, तो शिकायतकर्ता पैनल द्वारा अधिनिर्णयन का अनुरोध कर सकता है।

विज्ञान प्रौद्योगिकी
स्पेसएक्स ने अब तक के सबसे शक्तिशाली फाल्कन 9 रॉकेट का प्रक्षेपण किया:

• एलन मस्क की कैलिफोर्निया स्थित एरोस्‍पेस कंपनी, स्‍पेस-एक्‍स ने अपने सबसे शक्तिशाली रोकेट फाल्कन-9 का सफलतापूर्वक प्रक्षेपण किया। इस रॉकेट को इस वर्ष के अंत में मानव को अंतरिक्ष में ले जाने के लिए प्रमाणित किया गया है।
• ब्‍लॉक 5 फाल्कन 9 राकेट के प्रथम मिशन का मुख्‍य लक्ष्‍य बांग्‍लादेश के पहले उच्‍च-कक्षीय संचार उपग्रह ‘बंगबंधु’ उपग्रह-1 को अंतरिक्ष में पहुंचाना था। ब्‍लॉक 5 फाल्कन 9 राकेट का अंतिम लक्ष्‍य अंतरिक्ष यात्रियों को अंतर्राष्‍ट्रीय अंतरिक्ष केन्‍द्र में पहुंचाना है, जिसका प्रथम प्रक्षेपण दिसम्‍बर 2018 में किए जाने का कार्यक्रम बनाया गया है।
• स्‍पेस-एक्‍स के सीईओ एलोन मुस्‍क ने कहा है कि इस राकेट में बार-बार प्रक्षेपित किए जाने की क्षमता है। कुल मिलाकर इसे मामूली नवीकरण के साथ 10 बार प्रक्षेपित किया जा सकता।

भारतीय जूडो खिलाडियों ने एशियाई कैडेट जूडो चैम्पियनशिप के पहले दिन 3 पदक जीते:

• लेबनान में चल रही एशियाई कैडेट जूडो चैम्पियनशिप के पहले दिन रोहिणी एस मोहिते और तबाबी देवी थंजाम ने स्वर्ण पदक जीते। जबकि हरीश को कांस्य पदक प्राप्त हुआ।
• कैडेट चैम्पियनशिप में महाराष्ट्र की रोहिणी ने 40 किग्रा में जबकि मणिपुर की तबाबी ने 44 किग्रा में पहला स्थान हासिल किया। तबाबी देवी ने किर्गिस्तान में पिछले साल हुई एशियाई कैडेट जूडो चैम्पियनशिप में भी स्वर्ण पदक जीता था।

एनबीए एकेडमी इंडिया बास्केटबॉल विदआउट बॉर्डर्स एशिया 2018 की मेजबानी करेगा:

• दिल्ली स्थित एनबीए अकादमी ‘बास्केटबॉल विदआउट बार्डर्स एशिया 2018’ की मेजबानी करेगी। एनबीए एकेडमी इंडिया 30 मई से 02 जून तक होने वाले टूर्नामेंट की मेजबानी करेगी। यह दूसरी बार है जब एनबीए और एफआईबीए के ‘ग्लोबल बास्केटबॉल डेवलपमेंट और कम्युनिटी आउटरीच प्रोग्राम’ का आयोजन देश में किया जाएगा।
• इसके साथ ही एनबीए और बीएफआई 27 से 29 मई तक देश की शीर्ष महिला प्रतिभाओं के लिए ‘बास्केटबाल डेवलपमेंट’ शिविर का आयोजन करेगा। इसके लिए एकेडमी 17 साल से कम उम्र की 20-25 महिला प्रतिभाओं को चुनेगी।

'एक्रॉस द बेंच - इनसाइट इनटू द इंडियन मिलिटरी ज्यूडिशियल सिस्टम' नामक पुस्तक जारी:

• चीफ ऑफ़ आर्मी स्टॉफ जनरल बिपिन रावत ने 11 मई 2018 को लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल ज्ञान भूषण द्वारा लिखित 'एक्रॉस द बेंच - इनसाइट इनटू द इंडियन मिलिटरी ज्यूडिशियल सिस्टम' नामक पुस्तक को जारी किया।
• यह पुस्तक सैन्य न्यायिक प्रणाली के साथ सैन्य प्रतिष्ठानों के भीतर नियंत्रण और प्रबंधन के मुद्दों से संबंधित है।

डिफेन्स एंड सिक्योरिटी
मालदीव के विशेष आर्थिक क्षेत्र (ईईजेड) की संयुक्त निगरानी:

• भारतीय नौसेना के अपतटीय निगरानी पोत (एनओपीवी) सुमेधा को 9 से 17 मई, 2018 तक मालदीव के ईईजेड की संयुक्त निगरानी के लिए तैनात किया गया है। यह तैनाती नौसेना के मिशन आधारित तैनाती के हिस्से के रूप में की गई है।
• यह निगरानी पोत 11 से 12 मई, 2018 तक माले का संचालन भ्रमण करेगा जिसके दौरान यह पोत मालदीव के राष्ट्रीय रक्षा बलों (एमएनडीएफ) के कर्मियों को प्रशिक्षित करेगा।
• समेधा एमएनडीएफ कर्मियों के साथ 12 से 15 मई, 2018 तक मालदीव के ईईजेड की संयुक्त निगरानी करेगा। एमएनडीएफ कर्मी ईईजेड निगरानी पूरी होने पर माले में पोत से उतर जायेंगे।

Govt. departments earmark Rs 16,500 cr for Swachh Bharat Mission in 2018-19

• Nearly 16 thousand 500 crore rupees have been earmarked by 71 Ministries and Departments of the Central Government for implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission during the current fiscal.
• Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha launched the Swachhata Action Plan (SAP) 2018-19 in New Delhi during a meeting of Secretaries and senior officials. The SAP Compendium 2018-19 was also released on this occasion.

International

Foundation stone of Arun III Hydro electric project laid by PM Modi

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Nepalese counterpart K P Sharma Oli jointly laid the foundation stone of the 900-megawatt Arun III Hydroelectric Power Plant in Tumlingtar area in eastern Nepal.
• The project is expected to bring in USD 1.5 billion foreign direct investment into Nepal and create jobs for thousands of people.
• Arun-III is the largest capacity project in the history of hydroelectricity that is scheduled to be constructed within the next five years.
• Nepal is currently facing shortage of power and the production of hydropower from the project will mainly serve its domestic demands.

India & Peru signs an agreement in field of Renewable Energy at Lima

• India and Peru signed an agreement in the field of Renewable Energy at Lima. The pact was signed in the presence of Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and the Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva Arevalo.
• India is celebrating the 55th anniversary of establishment of Diplomatic Relations with Peru. Peru is an important country for multilateral issues and all the leaders strongly supported India’s candidature for a permanent seat in UN Security Council.

International Nurses Day: 12 May

• International Nurses day is being celebrated across the world every year on 12^th May to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
• Theme: This year the theme of the day is - Nurses A Voice to Lead - Health is a Human right.
• On the occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind will present Florence Nightingale awards to the nursing personnel at a function in New Delhi.

WTO sets up panel to resolve India-US renewables case

• The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has set up a panel to resolve the dispute raised by India against the US with regard to the policies of eight American states in the renewable energy sector.
• India had alleged that the domestic content requirement norms imposed by these eight US states are inconsistent with global trade rules.
• As both the countries failed to resolve the issue in the bilateral consultation process, India had sought formation of dispute resolution panel.
• India had alleged that the measures of those American states are inconsistent with WTOs Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures and the Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures.

SpaceX launches most powerful Falcon 9 rocket yet

• The California-based aerospace company, SpaceX has blasted off its most powerful Falcon 9 rocket, which is certified to carry humans to space later this year.
• The Block 5 Falcon 9 rocket's main goal for its maiden mission is to propel the first high-orbit communications satellite for Bangladesh, called Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
• The Block 5 Falcon 9 is eventually meant to carry astronauts to the International Space Station, with the first launch tentatively planned for December 2018.

Indian judokas win 3 medals on 1st day of Asian Cadet Judo Championships

• Indian judokas won 3 medals on the opening day of Asian Cadet Judo Championships in Lebanon.
• Competing in the Cadets championship, Rohini from Maharashtra won gold medal in the 40kg category while Tababi Devi Thanjam of Manipur emerged champion in the 44kg category.
• Tababi Devi had also won gold medal Asian Cadet Judo Championships last year in 2017 in Kyrgyzstan. Harish, who hails from Haryana, won bronze in the 50kg category.

NBA Academy India to host Basketball without Borders Asia 2018

• The NBA Academy in Delhi will host Basketball without Borders (BWB) Asia 2018. The event will be held from May 30-June 2 at the NBA Academy India, marking the second time that the NBA and FIBA's global basketball development and community outreach program will be held in the country.
• The event will bring together the top male and female players aged 17 and under from throughout the Asia-Pacific region to learn directly from NBA and FIBA players, legends and coaches and to compete against the best young players from the region.
• The academy will identify 20-25 female prospects aged under 17 years to attend the camp.

Joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Surveillance of Maldives

• Indian Naval (IN) ship Sumedha, has been deployed to undertake joint EEZ surveillance of Maldives from 09 to 17 May 18, as part of Indian Navy’s ‘Mission Based Deployments.
• The ship would interact and impart training to Maldives’ National Defence Forces (MNDF) personnel. The Joint EEZ surveillance of Maldives is an endeavour of the Government of India and the Indian Navy to ensure the safety and security of the vast EEZ of the island nation.
• Two officers and eight sailors of the Indian Navy’s Marine Commando (MARCO) cadre are currently conducting the 2nd Asymmetric Warfare Training Exercise ‘Ekatha 2018’ at Maldives, from 28 Apr to 15 May 2018. The exercise is being held at Composite Training Centre, Maafilhafushi.
