    Lok Sabha passes Citizenship Amendment Bill


    Lok Sabha on 08 Jan passed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 — which seeks to accord citizenship to people from six non-Muslim minority communities of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan who seek to escape “religious persecution” in those countries.


    The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 will be amended the laws governing citizenship, formed in 1955, to grant Indian nationality to Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians, who fled religious persecution from the three neighbouring countries and entered India before December 31, 2014.


    Lok Sabha passes 124th Constitution Amendment Bill


    The Lok Sabha has passed the Constitution 124th (Amendment) Bill, 2019 to provide 10% reservation to economically backward sections (EWS) in the General category. 


    The bill facilitates reservation for EWS in direct recruitments and admission in higher educational institutions.


    The bill seeks to provide reservation to those belonging to General category but is economically poor.

    Second edition of Khelo India Youth Games begins in Pune


    The second edition of Khelo India Youth Games officially began in Pune, Maharashtra on 9th Jan 2019.


    More than 9,000 players from different states will participate in 18 different events.

    India -Norway ink MoU to boost blue economy


    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 08 Jan held talks with his Norwegian counterpart Erna Solberg on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues.


    Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg is on a three-day visit to India.


    The two sides signed a MoU on India-Norway Ocean Dialogue and the establishment of the Joint Task Force on 'Blue Economy', in order to promote multi-sectoral cooperation in various aspects of Blue Economy.

    India born Gita Gopinath join IMF as Chief Economist


    India-born economist Gita Gopinath took over as the International Monetary Fund’s chief economist, becoming the first woman to occupy the top post.


    Gopinath became the second India-born economist to hold the position after former Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan.


    Gopinath, the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard University, succeeded IMF chief economist Maurice Obstfeld.

    The 4th edition of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi started on Jan 8 2019.


    It is organized by Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with Observer Research Foundation (ORF).


    This dialogue is India’s flagship annual geopolitical and geo-strategic conference.

    RBI releases Guidelines on tokenization of various card transactions


    RBI on 08 Jan released guidelines on tokenisation for various card transactions including debit and credit cards.


    Tokenisation


    Tokenisation is possibly a safer and secure payment system than others. It actually converts the actual card details with a unique alternate code called the Token. This token will be unique for a combination of card, token requestor and identified devices.
